Yesterday (11/28/18) a fellow activist and I were sharing food and hot coffee with our houseless community down on Foremaster Lane (AKA "The Corridor of Hope") until the government decided to come in and shut down a good thing. Since sharing food is no longer illegal in Nevada, they tried citing us for anything and everything. I picked up all of the trash in the area so they couldn't get us for littering, they threatened us with Trespassing but the sidewalk is public property. Then they tried to say that they had surveillance cameras showing that when the folks formed a line that they were obstructing the sidewalk. But after all the harassment was said and done and our stuff all packed up, they ended up citing me for parking on a red curb. By the way, for people who aren't familiar with the area, ALL of Foremaster has red curbs, the ENTIRE street! They do this by design but that's a whole other discussion.Upon hearing our story, many people online and at my job offered to help me with the fine so I came up with an idea. Vegas just started a program called "toys for tickets" for the holidays where tickets issued in November can be paid by December 19th with toys instead of cash. The toys will be donated to Salvation Army's Angel program. I had planned on fighting this ticket in court because I will not give these animals a penny but I thought this would be a much more constructive way of "taking the high road" so to speak and to continue showing the city and our government that We The People can take care of our communities in a much more peaceful and effective way. So, if you think citing good Samaritans is some bullshit and you want to help me out while also helping get some children some toys for Christmas then let's do this! Thank you all!✌️❤️The fine is $200 and anything raised beyond that will go directly to buying nothing but food and drinks so that we can continue to share with those in our community who need it most! For more information on this incident there are Livestreams available on:Facebook.com/waterandsolidarityAs well as a video on Joshua Martinez's YouTube channel:( https://youtu.be/YdmIju2E_m0 ) There's also an article that made the front page of the RJ:

So I bought $200 worth of toys today and paid off the citation through their "Toys for Tickets" program. All toys will go to children in need this Christmas through the Salvation Army's Angel Program.
Funny story though, they tried to deny the toys at first. They said that my parking infraction was ineligible because it created a safety hazard. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She said she couldn't do it because that was a restriction set by city council. I explained to her how I got the ticket and she said she'd call her manager. The manager ended up making an exception! Thank you all for helping out our community and for helping me turn this whole thing around. You all are amazing!

We Reached Our Goal! Woohoo! Thanks again to everyone for all of your amazing support. Thanks to your generosity we have $200 that will go towards "Toys for Tickets" to buy toys for children who could really use some gifts this Christmas. To me this seemed like a great alternative to forking over $200 to the State for that ridiculous citation I received when we were sharing food with our valley's houseless community. The remaining $300 will be used to buy snacks, tea, coffee, cocoa, milk, cereal, creamer, sugar, cups, spoons and bowls, and possibly some winter items. Thank you all again for helping me turn this absurd example government overreach into an opportunity to do even more good. Y'all are the best!
