Gift Of VR for Senior Community

Donation protected
Graduate students at Seattle University in the Arts Leadership program are putting on a series of arts workshops at a local senior living community for this quarter’s Community Engagement class.

The final workshop will allow virtual reality to be introduced to a group of people who have never been introduced to the technology. Rendever, a startup out of MIT specializing in VR for seniors, is kindly letting us borrow a set for the Community Engagement workshop on March 1st.

However, our goal is to raise enough money to gift at least one set along with the annual subscription so the residents can continue to engage with this technology long after our series of workshops are over. In addition to the library of videos, cultural, and educational tours, this platform has the ability to add family events.

What does this mean? If grandma can't make your graduation ceremony or a big family wedding, we can lessen the feeling of loneliness and sadness from missing out on a family event....and she can live the event through VR. She doesn't have to wait for a photo book to arrive, but can sit front row, surrounded by friends and family, and feel like she's actually there. The benefits of this platform are huge - from social isolation to anxiety reduction, and we really want to gift this to a our local senior community.

Full campaign funding will make it possible for 8 people to simultaneously experience Rendever’s programming and provide full support for a couple of years.

50% funding will buy a full set of 4 headsets with the networking tablet and annual subscription for the programming content.
