Arivaca Recycling Center
Donation protected
My name is Elijah Buchanan. I'm the youngest son of children's books authors Ken and Deborah Buchanan. I've lived in the small town of Arivaca, in southern Arizona, off and on for 30 years of my life. It's the only place I've ever truly considered home. The community here helped raise me with a fondness of the desert climate and overall respect of mother earth.
For the past few years my father and I have been kicking around the idea of having a facility to sort, clean, and transport any recyclable material to be processed at a recycling plant. Currently our waste management facility is a county run transfer station where everything goes to a landfill and gets buried. A lot of the stuff being thrown away is recyclable (cans, plastic, glass, cardboard, metal, brush that could be mulched for compost, etc). We feel like we could be much more responsible as a community.
In addition to a recycling transfer station, it has come to my attention that our community would be well served by combining this venture with a small hardware and second hand tool provisioner. The nearest Home Depot is over 50 miles away and Ace Hardware is 35 miles away.
With the help of my family I have acquired undeveloped land in a good location near our Community Center. I'm finally ready to turn my dreams in to reality.
Any money we raise in this campaign will go towards: developing the land with a septic system, well, and electricity (hopefully solar if we raise enough!!); construction of a secure warehouse-style building; purchasing recycling equipment; and purchasing inventory (hardware and used tools).
I think we have a wonderful community and I am grateful to have been raised by so many amazing people. It would be an honor to be able to provide these services to my community.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my campaign. On behalf of myself, my family, and my community we Thank You for any contributions. We are grateful for the opportunity to do our part and keep our little corner of the world clean!
