Carlos is a wonderful and inspiring 16-year-old boy from Hartford, CT. He goes to Bulkeley High School and is a huge sports fan. For a teenage boy, he is truly exceptional in his love for helping others and commitment to his family, especially his 8-year-old sister and 6-year-old brother.

He was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at two years old and is very supportive of other kids with diabetes. He was a counselor in training this summer at Joslin Diabetes Camp and is in constant communication with his fellow campers. He hopes to continue working for camp and be a role model to others with the disease.

Despite all Carlos has already overcome, he is now faced with his most daunting obstacle yet. Carlos was involved in a tragic accident on Sunday, October 7th. Carlos unknowingly picked up what he thought was a piece of trash, which in reality, was a homemade explosive device. The device exploded in Carlos' hand causing severe burns and lacerations to his hands, face, chest and abdomen. Carlos also lost two fingers on his left hand and his doctors are hoping to preserve his other fingers.

Carlos has been incredibly brave throughout this entire situation. He is a hero to his mother and family who say Carlos prevented a young child from picking up the device. Carlos has a long road ahead of him. In his journey to recovery and healing, he will need multiple pieces of medical equipment and a possible prosthetic. Many accommodations will need to be made both at home and at school for Carlos to return to a normal life. Carlos' family is deeply committed to his recovery and return to health, however in the wake of the accident, they are facing a financial crisis.

Please consider contributing to Carlos' recovery. This selfless and thoughtful young man needs your help.

Carlos is trying super hard with what he has left and he is doing amazing. With all of your support and encouragement it keeps him going and trying harder and harder. We are still trying to get enough for his bio-mechanical prosthetic. We have had many estimates and we are about 25% there to make this happen for him. Please keep sharing his gofundme and his story, with your help we will be able to reach his goal. Thank you so much for your continued support, encouragement and kindness. Everyone reaching out with other options as well have been as blessing. Bless all of you.

This is Carlos' amazing progress. He still has a long road on this journey of recovery but he is determined through his courage, bravery and everyone who has helped in any way, prayers, donations, encouragement and just having his back. It truly means everything right now. We are still working to get his biomechanical prosthetic which I am trying to work with a Boston company and his insurance does not cover any of it I will post another update on the total cost of the prosthetic. Of course there are other things that he and the family need as well to help accommodate him in his journey of recovery. Please continue to share, encourage donations, and prayers and hopefully one day he will get justice for him and whoever did this . Anyone with any suggestions or any people you may know that can help in any way we would greatly appreciate. Thank you to all who has had his back and continue to do so!!!
Love always Mom, Carlos and family!!!

Carlos is doing well all things considered. His wounds are healing and with his most recent procedure he got 2 fingers straightened and 1 pin removed. Although the straightening opened up some wounds he is determined to still do things on his own. I am changing his dressings and watching the progress of his healing and he is doing great. He also is working super hard with his tutor so that he doesn't fall behind in his junior year. Please keep sharing and contibuting to his cause. We have a long way to go in his journey of healing.

Carlos is doing ok, we are trying to reach our goal to help with med bills, equipment and a prosthetic down the road. First bill is $23,000. We are anticipating interviews with the Hartford Courant and hopefully other news channels to get the word out. So please don't stop sharing, and all of you who shared, contributed in any way we greatly appreciate it. Carlos of course still has a long road of recovery, he started tutoring, he has great goals I am confident he will achieve like graduating high school next year and moving on with this bump in his journey of life. Thank you so much.
