Donate Sparky's Trees to Local Fams

What would you do if you couldn’t afford a Christmas tree this year? What would you tell your children?
We were recently introduced to the story of Ellsworth “Sparky” Wayman, a 91-year-old WWII veteran who lives in a garage and has no surviving family. During the holiday season, Sparky sells Christmas trees out of his garage in New Windsor, NY. A few #womeninbiz in the Hudson Valley Women in Business group have decided to support this joy-giver and donate trees to local Hudson Valley families who cannot afford them otherwise. Spearheading this project are myself, Dr. Madeleine King of King Family Chiropractic in Beacon, NY and Kira Seligman Brooks, owner of an independant writing business in Beacon, NY. We reached out to Community Action Partnership of Dutchess County and they were able to find four single-mother households who are in need of trees in the Beacon, Fishkill and Wappingers Falls regions. I have created a fundraising campaign to support the purchase of the trees and supplies. Monetary donations in ANY amount would be greatly appreciated. Each tree costs $35, and we will also be supplying tree stands which are $20/ea. I visited Sparky’s establishment recently and he still has a supply of trees. Our goal is to raise enough to be able to donate trees to each of these families. We will keep the fundraising open until December 16th so that trees can be delivered to our families that weekend. Donations of ornaments or tree skirts would also be appreciated! We would love for all of those who donate or are helping with this effort to join us in the pick-up and delivery of the trees if interested.
Please join us in this worthwhile cause to spread a lot of joy this holiday season. We want to light up the life of this man and others who don’t have a lot in this world. Together, we have a lot of power to do a lot of good. Happy Holidays!
