-------------

We have closed this account so that we are able to give AT HEARTS LENGTH, a 501c3 the ability to issue checks to Lee Parker, Ivan White and to the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless. We would like to thank everyone once again for their support of our heroes and helping to address the homeless situation in Elizabeth, NJ. We will post pictures and notify media when their checks are presented.

Update: We were with both Lee and Ivan yesterday. Lee has a job now and a place to stay. The Coalition is completing a plan for him to get his own permanent place which should be happening soon. Ivan is doing well also. They asked us to thank everyone for the support.

------------

Two individuals found a backpack at the Elizabeth train station that had a number of pipe bombs located in the bag.

Had it not been for these heroes, Elizabeth NJ would have experienced a devastating terrorist attack. Thanks to Ivan White and Lee Parker, that explosion did not happen. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

Lee Parker is homeless and Ivan White lives on a fixed income. We are raising money for these two heroes who have done much for our community. A portion of the funds will also go toward the Elizabeth Coalition for the Homeless. Funds will be split 1/3 for Lee Parker, 1/3 for Ivan White and a 1/3 for the Elizabeth Coalition to House The Homeless. This group is providing services to the homeless and the needy. They have already been able to place Lee in a home and are working on permanent housing for him.

You can also mail a check to 'At Heart's Length' which is a 501c3 non profit account
Their address is
PO Box 3678
Elizabeth, NJ 07207

Thank you.

UPDATE

The outpouring has been amazing. We greatly appreciate your generosity. We continue to collect funds through gofundme.com and through the organization 'At Heart's Length'

Any items that you would like to send to Lee Parker or to Ivan White can be send to:

I have a lot of respect for Lee Parker, he was homeless, understood his situation and is now ready to turn the page. We gave him his check to reward him for what he did, but it won't ever repay him for the lives that he and Ivan saved at the Elizabeth train station.

I grabbed him by the arm today and said 'how are you doing Lee?' He said 'good'. I said 'you going to be ok?' He said 'I'm working, I love the job...and I'm going to get an apartment now.' He asked if he could call me and I said 'anytime, you know that! Why wouldn't I want to talk to you Lee...ANYTIME!'

He's getting support from the Coalition and a great organization of people called Be The Change's led by Norma Bowe.

He's a different guy now from when I first met him. He's a little stronger, a little more focused, he's got his pride together and he has a lot of people cheering for him. I'm truly proud of him.

At Hearts Length, Be The Change, Coalition to House the Homeless were there for Lee. But just remember, there's so many more Lee's out there.

We presented checks today at St Joseph's Social Service Center raised to recognize the efforts of Ivan White, Lee Parker and the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless.

As you might recall, Lee and Ivan were the two individuals that found the explosives planted in a backpack at the Elizabeth Train Station. They are true heroes, so we're pretty lucky to have them in our midst.

We are also fortunate to have the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless which is led by Linda Flores and Sister Jacinta Fernandes, both working diligently to address the issues of the homeless and the needy here in Elizabeth.

God Bless Lee, Ivan, the Coalition and the efforts through At Heart's Length.

Thank you for all of your support!

Hello everyone

Here is your update. The fund for Hometown Heroes wants to make sure that we take care of the beneficiaries of the account and that is why we will be proceeding with having the check written to Ivan White, Lee Parker and the Coalition to House The Homeless. The funds will be distributed from At Hearts Length which is a 501c3 organization set up to provide
services to the community in Elizabeth.

We have spoken to Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless so that they will be working with both. Lee has a place to stay and will be getting a job from a large company that we've been in contact with. Well let you know how they are both doing through the website.

We sincerely thank everyone for their support of this initiative. We will have pictures posted once that's done at www.atheartslength.org

Thank you again for your generosity!

Hi folks, Once again we hope you understand that from the beginning we've indicated were raising funds for all three. Therefore it is 1/3 for Ivan White. 1/3 for Lee Parker and 1/3 for the Coalition to House the Homeless. We hope you also recognize that Lee hasn't lived in a home for over two years. He now has a place to stay tonight as a result of the work of the Coalition to House the Homeless, but as the days and months move ahead, we'll all be thinking of own issues in our lives and we'll need a organization that can carry it forward for us. The Elizabeth Coalition will be paying close attention to these gentlemen. We spent time with them today and there is no doubt they both need support. We should all take comfort in knowing that this group will be there when they need it. Also to address another question, we're going to set up a time over the next few days where will distribute the checks and ensure that we publish the pictures and the amounts on the atheartslength.org page Thank you for all the questions.

I am so completely confused that people cannot read...It clearly states the funds will be divided 3 ways. 1/3 each to the 2 homeless men, and the other third to the homeless center which is run by volunteers...Why is this a problem for so many?

How can you not see that the percentage is there. It says one third to each man and one third to a homeless shelter.

This is concerning. It's very muddy. Raising funds for the men, but won't say how much while using their story in their name but keeping the money. The "proceeds" section should have a specific amount - otherwise you could be giving 1% and keeping 99% of the proceeds and say "we are raising money in their honor". You aren't doing that. You are raising it for yourselves then deciding what to give them after the fact. Please update the description for transparency because otherwise it constitutes fraud because you are NOT raising funds for them, it's for you. I'll be happy to donate once I actually know they are getting more than a penny on the dollar.

I strongly agree with Mary Peterson. Using these heroe's names to get donations is clearly taking advantage of this donation and is purely wrong! Please let us know how much will be given to them and how much will go towards charity. After all, this was started to help the heroes right?

Its just weird that now they wanna help house the homeless guys because of his actions then its crazy because these men are grown they can create their own gofund me pages and get all the money they deserve not have to splilt with the housing coalition as if they did anything to assist the two in bringing the knowledge to the cops its just all crazy to me its their reward let them decide what to do with it let me just because you created the page you get to say where the money goes BS

Thank you, Donald G. for setting this up!!! I am happy to also help the rest of the homeless efforts by the Elizabeth (NJ) Coalition to House the Homeless (1/3) with the remaining 2/3 being split between our two heroes of this week, Lee and Ivan. Thankful that Lee and Ivan have community support to manage all the love coming their way! :) That can be difficult since it shows up in many unique ways. So glad to be able to contribute to NJ heroes all the way from TX!

Not cool. People think 100% of this money is going to Lee and Ivan. To use their heroics to help fundraise for an organization, no matter how noble the non profit coalition is, is wrong. Someone else definitely would've started a go fund me type fundraiser for these two guys, given them 100% of the donations, and wouldn't use there names to skim 1/3 of the donations for an organization that had nothing to do with their heroic actions

This strikes me as a smart arrangement, and I was happy to donate 1/3 to the organization. These guys need a strong community if they are going to overcome adversity. I felt that the wording was very clear in both the article that led me here and in the description. The negativity is confusing. For those who are against this, do you know for a fact that these two men are not on board with the plan? You're acting like they don't have a voice -- yet it seems that the campaign is very much in touch with them. Bravo for setting this up!

Hi Our description indicated that we would be providing funds to all three entities which is Lee Parker, Ivan White and the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless. Our group At Hearts Length of Elizabeth is a volunteer group and relies on the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless to deliver on services for those that are the most needy . We have no direct relationship with them other than we support their good work. The Coalition to House The Homeless - located at St Joseph's Social Service Center on Division Street in Elizabeth has a strong track record in this field with providing food, clothing and housing. In this case, Lee Parker who was homeless over the last two years finally has a bed to sleep in this evening courtesy of The Coalition To House The Homeless and another local group called Be The Change. They will be providing him further support while they get him back on his feet. We are working on getting a job for Lee Parker as well. Ivan White lives in housing that is subsidized and lives on a fixed income. He will get his funding from us as well as any support the folks at St Joseph's can provide. You should know that as a group we have spent a lot of time with these two gentlemen and will be providing the support that we can to make sure they recognize how much we appreciate their efforts. Thank you.

For anyone who has worked in social services, this plan makes complete sense. Don explained that Lee and Ivan will receive ongoing supports from the groups that are receiving the other third of the funds. These services are vital in order for people who have housing and occupational stressors to make progress and build ongoing skills to become more independent. Everyone should stop criticizing this plan. Again, if you had any experience working with the homeless or underserved population, you would understand this better.
