Do you remember how happy you felt when you received your first bicycle? Mine was a Huffy; purple with orange grips, a kickstand, and a megaphone. Your first bike is a milestone of your childhood. Many children never get to experience this feeling of freedom and joy.
By donating to my campaign, you'll be creating memories that will last a lifetime.
My name's Carter, and I'm a 28 year old adventurer, dreamer, and athlete. I was born and raised in Indiana, but now live and work in Alaska.
I'm cycling from San Diego to St. Augustine, Florida, over the next 3 months. I'll be raising money for children along the way. Here's how the campaign will work:
--I'll be working with a non-profit called "Bikes for Goodness Sake." All the money I raise will go towards purchasing high quality bicycles for underprivileged kids.
--I buy the "kits" from BFGS (http://bikesforgoodnesssake.org/ )
and assemble them with the help of friends and local bike shops, and then give them to the kids.
--My goal of $2500 will be enough to build about 10 bikes. Ideally, I'll be finished with the trip and have met my goal just in time for Christmas.
I just started cycling this summer, and realized how free you feel when the pedals start turning. It would mean so much to me, and the kids, if this campaign is a success. The more money I raise, the more bikes I can donate!
I'm going to be producing a short documentary along the way, as well as a blog. You will be able to follow my progress and adventures at riesen2ride.blogspot.com .
If you donate your hard earned money to my cause, I'm going to be ecstatic! To show my gratitude, I'm going to send all who donate personal emails thanking them for all of their support.
To all who donate $50 or more, I'll send a digital copy of the documentary. In the film, you'll get to see first hand, what life on a bike was like. You'll also get to see the look on the children's faces when they receive their first bike!
