Support the MOVE Familys Conference
ONA MOVE! LONG LIVE JOHN AFRICA!
In 1972, John Africa founded the MOVE Organization to further the struggles of the liberation of all life, environmental sustainability and harmony, and other causes. Based in West Philadelphia, over the years, MOVE held several public events, community gatherings, and demonstrations to call attention to the perils of modern society. While not without some setbacks (including the imprisonment of 9 members of the MOVE family after an attack on their home by the Philadelphia PD in 1978 and the bombing of the MOVE family compound in 1985 at the hands of the PPD and the FBI, resulting in the death of 11 people, including John Africa and five children), the MOVE organization and family perseveres!
This coming spring, from May 5-7, 2017, the MOVE organization will be hosting a conference to talk about who they are. Over the years, many different stories have been circulated about MOVE, what they stand for, what they've done, how they operate. This is a chance for the family to set the record straight. Over the course of these three days, members of the family will be talking about the history of MOVE, the teachings of John Africa, and the work that MOVE continues to do to this day.
This fundraiser is being put together to support the logistical costs of the conference. The event itself will be free to attend, and the MOVE family has no intention of profiting off of this event. Money will go towards costs of renting the space (Universal Audenreid Charter High School), as well as transportation and housing costs for attendees coming from outside of Philadelphia. Any additional funds raised will be put to use for future events by the MOVE organization, or will be circulated back into the community at MOVE's discretion.
THANK YOU! Your donation will make this conference possible, and will help to spread the teachings of John Africa and the message of MOVE. For more information about the MOVE organization, visit onamove.com or "like" the facebook page "Justice for the MOVE 9"
"All living beings, things that move, are equally important, whether they are human beings, dogs, birds, fish, trees, ants, weeds, rivers, wind or rain. To stay healthy and strong, life must have clean air, clear water and pure food. If deprived of these things, life will cycle to the next level, or as the system says, ‘die’." - John Africa
We've re-activated this donation page to allow for folks to continue donating, as costs come in surrounding the conference. Since we had such success with this campaign the last time (we raised over $500 more than we were even aiming for!), we've raised the goal to $5,000. As before, any extra money that comes in from this page will stay within the MOVE Organization and Family, and will be used for future events and the continued support of our Brothers and Sisters who are unwillingly being held by the state.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you this May!
Thank you to everybody who has donated so far! We're already over two thirds of the way to our stated goal! Right now, we're beginning to do outreach for the conference. Members of the MOVE Organization had a gathering in Philadelphia at the beginning of August to provide updates on the cases of the MOVE 9, some of whom had just been up for parole this summer. Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, the parole for Janet, Janine, and Debbie Africa were denied in June of this year, and we're still struggling to support our brothers and sisters. During the meeting, we heard revolutionary words of support from Delbert Africa, who called in to join us from SCI Dallas in Dallas, PA. We also talked a lot about what the conference is going to look like, and ways for people to get involved in the planning process. Feel free to reach out to us if you'd like more information about that.
With the money we've raised so far, we have enough to secure the Universal Audenreid Charter High School for the weekend of the conference. Further funds will go towards making flyers, palm cards, and other materials to spread the word about the conference, as well as printing MOVE literature in advance.
Again, thank you for supporting the MOVE family and the teachings of John Africa. ONA MOVE.
