I am honored and delighted to be one of the Michigan At-Large Delegates for Senator Bernie Sanders at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia from July 25-28, 2016.

I support Senator Sanders and his positions. I canvassed and phonebanked on his behalf, contributed to his campaign, and I even spoke briefly and informally at a small rally for him in Los Angeles this spring.

I also support the Democratic Party. I have been working hard for the past several years to organize grassroots voter engagement and participation in Washtenaw County, where I am now co-chair for Precinct Organizing. I have been working with other Bernie activists in my area to support their campaigns for local elected office, and to recruit more people for GOTV efforts this fall. I take part in politics with the goal of making life better for all of us, not for a privileged few. I am proud to be among those entrusted with making a positive difference at this year's national convention.

I have only recently returned to work after several years of serious illness. The medical and insurance bills incurred from my bout with advanced cancer have greatly affected my financial stability. Delegates to the DNC must self-fund, and while I can pay for some of the cost and plan to keep my expenses to a minimum (by sharing accommodations and traveling inexpensively) it is still a costly trip.

This event is definitely a personal watershed for me. Having recently been very ill, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to resume my political activism. To take part as a delegate at the 2016 DNC will offer me the chance not only to be part of history but to gain more contacts and skills to continue to advance progressive goals in Michigan.

We have a lot of work to do, and I am ready to do it. "Not me--us!" is a slogan I have lived by for years. It's a privilege to be part of this movement, at this moment. Thank you for your support.

If I receive donations in excess of my goal, or if I do not use all of the donations I receive, I will contribute the remaining funds to two advocacy organizations: Water You Fighting For? (Flint water crisis) and the People's Water Board (Detroit water crisis).
