Support Officer Chris Dorman
A comment on the post saying that workers comp will pay and that this may not be a needed fundraiser. Even if Officer Dorman receives workers comp, there are so many other expenses that need to be considered. If you've ever had a family member hospitalized in the city, then you know that parking, meals, etc add up. Also, family members who help him may not have paid leave. There are many hidden costs when someone has medical issues. Also, Officer Dorman is only part time at Folcroft. He may have other jobs that he is missing and won't be compensated for. I think that someone who puts their life on the line for our safety deserves support, not questioning.
So let's say he does get something to cover his medical. SOWHAT!!! He is a part time Officer (meaning he has to work more than one job to pay bills!!!!). If his Department does pay some kind of salary it will not be at a full time rate. He also loses his income from his other job or jobs. If you don't want to donate don't ! Your speculations are not necessary on here. Just move along!
Wow to negative (or ANYTHING but positive) comment regarding this effort! REGARDLESS of benefits of not, Chris is going to be out of work for quite a lengthy period, and workmans comp often falls short of ones actual salary. This fundraising is BEYOND necessary just to assist with normal day to day expenditures and needs, not to mention bills that won't decrease simply because of any disparity between typical pay and workmans comp! Thanks to Amanda Viglione for initiating these efforts!! xoxoxo to all in uniform!
I donated because I appreciate what you have done every day that you put on the shield. You didn't EXPECT this crazy piece of %$#@& to shoot you. I hope that all your expenses are covered through WC/Union - even if they are, my donation and the purpose of this fund is to show how many people are pulling for you, support you and appreciate you. I hope that there is some or all of this money that can go to something Unexpectedly Nice for You or Your Family!
I wish we could donate. But unfortunately we don't have the funds but I want you to know that you are in our prayers. I've been following your story since it happened and have been praying. May you have a speedy recovery. You are a true hero!! God bless you!!
Who knows what he is or isn't getting. It's a personal choice to donate. I think I can speak for most that the donations are to show appreciation and support. No one is being forced to donate. I hope if my son were in this situation, which I hope he is not, he would be as loved, appreciated, and supported as Chris. It's not about the money. He deserves it. If you don't want to donate, then don't.
What a blessing these men & women are, who put their lives on the line every single day to protect our communities from the vile vermin that surrounds us on a daily basis. My thoughts & prayers go out to this brave young officer & I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. Daughter of a proud LE Officer with the BPD for 36 years, Tracey Reitterer, Baltimore, MD.
