Support Mission Fire Families

$52,494 of $100,000 goal

Raised by 862 people in 20 months

 SAN FRANCISCO, CA
On June 18th at around 3pm, at the corner of 29th & Mission St, in San Francisco, 40 people and 4 small business institutions lost their homes & businesses today to a 5-alarm fire.

We are working in conjunction with a number of community organizations to ensure the families properly receive the funds and the services they need:
Mission SRO Collaborative
Dolores Street Community Services
Causa Justa::Just Cause
MEDA

100% of funds raise will go to the families (minus any fees charged by GoFundMe)

This is just one of a string of fires that have taken lives and homes over the last 2 years. Our city has failed our community to prevent these fires and to support families who are victims of these fires.

 Mission Local Article

Once again the community must come together to support our neighbors. Please support if you can so we can find homes and provide necessities to these families.

We will also demand that the city create an emergency fund to support the families.

Today survivors of the 29th and Mission fires receive the first disbursement of all the funds garnered.

In total - with all the organizational, business, and individual support -- over $150k has been raised for the survivors!

The first disbursement is today, the next disbursement will occur when all the deposits from the other donors are received.

I spoke to the families today at the disbursement dinner, and they thank you all for your love and support!! Our community is strong and is all we have. Thank you for showing that there are good people in this world!

A big Thank You to all the orgs involved to help these families get on their feet:
MEDA
Causa Justa::Just Cause
Mission SRO Collaborative
Supervisor David Campos
.....and all others!

Supporters! Thank you so much for helping the account reach over $50k. We will be closing the GoFundMe campaign at 5:30pm. Once the campaign is closed, 100% of the money raised (minus the fees from GoFundMe) will be transferred to Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) - the San Francisco non-profit that effectively distributed funds to the fire survivors of the 22nd St. & Mission fire from last year. MEDA will not be taking any fees from the funds. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Gabriel from MEDA at 415-282-2334 x150.

In order to make sure all survivors are aware of and receive the fund disbursement, MEDA is working in partnership with Mission SRO Collaborative, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Dolores Street Services, Supervisor Campos' Office, and the tenants.

Thank you again for all your love and support!

We past our goal of $25,000! Now lets go big and get these families permanent homes - we've raised the goal to $100,000.

Thank you for all your love and support. The families are following the progress and are incredibly grateful for your help.

I'm inspired by how beautiful and loving our community is when we come together!

HOW WE PLAN TO DISTRIBUTE THE FUNDS: First off, thank you all for your love and support. It's been amazing that we are able to raise over $22k for the families in less than 48hrs. There have been some very good questions about how the funds will be distributed to the families. The plan is to identify every family that has been displaced. We are in contact with organizations within the mission that have worked directly with these families, and we will work in coordination with them to ensure the families are part of the decision making process for how best to distribute the funds equitably. We will be working with: Mission SRO Collaborative (an org that have worked with these particular tenants) Dolores Street Community Services Causa Justa::Just Cause Ultimately, the goal is for each family to have cash on hand as quickly as possible to support them during these trying times and especially as funds will be needed for securing more permanent housing. After the 22nd and Mission Street fire, a GoFundMe page was created, and checks were given directly to the families to support them in finding permanent housing. This is our goal. For those that asked to receive a little more information about me: Edwin Lindo is a San Francisco native with a passion for education equity, social justice, preventing police violence, advocating for a more fair government, and speaking truth to power. Most recently, Edwin was a member of the Frisco5 hunger strikers demanding police accountability that focused national attention on the issue of police violence and led to the resignation of San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr. Edwin continues to lead the fight to end police violence against people of color, demand transparent civic government and create access to affordable housing and sustainable communities.

I'm very happy that people want to support this, but I don't fully grasp the language of this campaign. How is it that the city has failed?
