2019 FIDI Cycle Challenge for OSH

The FIDI Cycle Challenge will take you from London to Amsterdam in two days. The 141-mile (226km) cycle tour will depart from the center of London and finish at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam, the host of the 2019 FIDI Conference – just in time for the opening of the Conference on Sunday, 31st March 2019. Between these two bustling capitals, two days of cycling await following an exciting route through some of the most beautiful countryside and coastal areas both countries have to offer.

Operation Smile was chosen in 2015 as the project that can make a real tangible difference to the lives of vulnerable, poverty stricken children. Operation Smile Honduras provides surgical intervention for children born with cleft lip and palate disorders. These conditions are particularly prevalent in impoverished communities in Honduras where access to medical care is limited. Operation Smile Honduras performs transformational surgery on children affected by these conditions, allowing them the chance of a normal childhood. The multidisciplinary team at Operation Smile Honduras includes speech therapists, feeding specialists, nutritionists, pediatricians, social workers, plastic surgeons, dentists, psychologists and volunteers, who give food and assistance to traveling families who arrive at the clinic from all over Honduras.

FIDI donations go directly to operative missions where many children are operated on over a one week period. In December 2016, the first FIDI OSH Mission took place and 89 children received surgery. This mission was exclusively funded by FIDI donations and is the first of three planned FIDI OSH medical missions. So far FIDI has raised over $67,000 and has many activities planned  to keep the funds coming in to help as many children as possible. 2019 will be the last year FIDI supports Operation Smile Honduras, ending at the Conference in Amsterdam. With a remaining amount of approximately $33,000 still to be collected to reach our target, we enter the last push, concluding with our Cycle Challenge, directly focused on raising funds for OSH.
