We are raising money for life changing scoliosis vbt surgery in Germany
Phe is a very active 9yr old that loves gymnastics.... Dance.... Theatre....swimming and riding her bike. Due to her scoliosis, the increasing deformities and medical issues it is causing, these activities are becoming harder for her to do. Scoliosis has been an invisible illness for Phe until recently.
At 5yrs old Phe started falling over, falling off her bike, falling off the beam at gym. One day doing a handstand that she could no longer hold we realised her spine was curved. The NHS were amazing. In just a few months she was diagnosed with early onset idiopathic scoliosis and was wearing a brace 23hrs a day. As we fell apart Phe took it all in her stride and adjusted with ease to brace wearing. Never complaining. Despite wearing the brace the curve progressed as did the rib cage hump, trunk shift and protruding shoulder blade. With this came numb legs and issues with her internal organ. None of this is fun at such a young age. With all this came the frustration that Phe is losing some skills she could once do with ease like lifting her arms above her head straight.
Now.... since may 2018 Phe spine and rotation has increased at an alarming rate. The NHS can offer metal rods meaning a lengthy operation and recovery. After this she wouldn't be able to do everything she wants. We don't want this for our child.
VBT hopefully will be available here on the NHS in a few years but too late for Phe. VBT can only be done on a curve that is not too large. We are now getting near that range so don't have long to raise the money for Phe to go to Germany for surgery. Of course we would prefer not to be in this position but as we are we feel that as parents we need to provide Phe with a surgery that offers her the best childhood and future.
Cost.... the cost of surgery is significant along with insurance, travel, accommodation, consultation fees and after care. This is why we need to fundraise and quickly. As parents it is heart breaking to see the physical and medical issues our daughter has already been though. To see her unable to do what she loves. We believe VBT will transform her childhood and future
