My Dear Friend Lisa enjoyed showing me the ultrasound pictures of the baby girl that she was carrying in her womb. She already had two small boys at home so a little girl was something Lisa was very excited about. As the pregnancy progressed Lisa began having difficulty; the baby she was carrying was not developing properly. Still, Lisa never gave up hope and would often tell me about the surgeries that her baby girl would need once she was born.
Lisa and I often interacted at Albright College and we quickly became friends. I was sad when she had to take an early maternity leave because of the complications she was experiencing. I was also concerned for her because she did not have any type of short-term disability insurance to help supplement her income while on maternity leave.
On July 6th Lisa gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. MaKenzi Rose came into this world a few weeks premature weighing 5lbs. 14oz.
The complications were more severe than expected and even though MaKenzie received the best of care at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) she passed away Monday, August 24th in her mommy's arms, 7 weeks after she was born.
I spoke with Lisa and she told me how MaKenzie would look at her when she would hold her. I cannot imagine the hearache that Lisa and her husband must be experiencing, but I can start this Burial/Memorial Fund to help defer the costs that they have incurred.
Lisa is still not back to work as she was spending time with her sweet baby girl. Somewhere inside her mommy's heart she knew the time would be short. The family has incurred expenses associated with the birth of the baby, loss of Lisa's income while she was on a long maternity leave and now funeral expenses for the burial of their baby girl.
Every dollar helps. Please give to this fund so that this family can be relieved of some of the expenses they have incurred through this very difficult and sad time in their lives. I know Lisa will appreciate all the help that she receives. I also know that she would never ask for help so I am asking for her.
