Zuleyma Sanchez was visiting colleges in Arizona with her parents in March and was involved in a horrific car accident. The incident left both Zuleyma and her mom in the ICU. Zuleyma has undergone multiple surgeries for the extensive injuries she suffered in the accident. These include surgeries for internal bleeding and fractured vertebrae.
The family has been informed that their insurance will not cover all of the costs.
Zuleyma has worked for three years and three quarters of high school to put herself in the position to be the first in her family to go to college. She is involved in Leadership, AP classes, and Connect Crew (upper classmen helping freshmen adjust to high school). She has been accepted to multiple colleges. This accident will not just keep her out of school for the forseeable future, but she is trapped in another state without access to her school materials.
Obviously the timing (the last quarter of her senior year), location (in another state, without a support network), and severity of her situation is unbelievably bad. When the information that her insurance is already balking at the cost of her care is added to the situation, it becomes even more serious if that is even possible.
We don't know how much Zuleyma and her family will be responsible for financially when all is said and done. We don't even know when she will be able to come back to California and her own home. Even worse, the car was totalled, so there is an additional hurdle to getting home when she is finally released from the hospital. What we do know is that we want to help her. Please consider donating if you can and if you feel so inspired to do so.

I am amazed at the response to our attempt to help Zuleyma. The widespread generosity and outpouring of support is breathtaking. "Z" has had a fever the last few days and hasn't been able to communicate, but I know when she can she will be absolutely shocked!
But Z is not out of the woods, and her recovery will prove to be long and arduous. I am personally so very touched by the number of responses I am getting to this request for help, and I wish I could do more to help her and her family. So let me start by saying thank you so very much for all of the support. If you've donated, thank you. If you've forwarded, retweeted, or reposted...thank you. DO IT AGAIN! I wish I could post a picture of Z or the car, but I would never invade her privacy like that, so until she is okay with it, we'll have to see her smiling face from a week before the accident. Let's keep this rolling!

We've gotten some press, and we're very grateful for the added awareness and support for an amazing young lady.

School is out, and Z has been able to graduate. Not just graduate but walk the stage with the rest of her classmates! The outpouring of goodwill had been a blessing to Z and her family. Every donation is greatly appreciated. While we haven't reached our goal, We believe it is time to close this out and move in a different direction. If the need arises, we will move forward accordingly. Thank you for the donations, prayers, and well wishes.

From Z and her family!
"My family and I are so thankful for the generosity we are surrounded with. It's been a hard time for my family and being surrounded by so much support has definitely made it easier. We cannot thank everybody enough for all the help we are receiving, we really do appreciate it "-Z

I got to see Z yesterday when I delivered some of her school work and supplies to her. She is doing better, but still has a long way to go. The worst part is that the stress of the financial burdens is starting to be a factor. Bills are piling up, and insurance is balking at paying too much. The best part is that Z and her parents have great attitudes and such a strong spirit, this won't stop them. They are all smiles and just so happy to be home and have visitors once in a while. Z has started to withdraw from this account to help offset some of the bills that are coming in, but they could use more $$$$$! Please retweet, re-post, and spread the word. Thank you for all your donations, help, thoughts, and prayers.
