Drive Out Cancer
Donation protected
As my previous Facebook posts have revealed, this year marks a major milestone in my life as I reached the “magical” age of 65.
As I approached my birthday, many asked me what I was planning to do or where I was planning to go to celebrate.
I am a very fortunate cancer survivor. However, I have lost three beloved siblings and two of my best friends to this disease, along with many other relatives and acquaintances.
I recently read that the American Cancer Society has estimated that in 2016 there will be an estimated 1,685,210 new cancer cases diagnosed and 595,690 cancer deaths.
So, this is what I’m going to do.
I’ve decided that I am going to go on a “Driving Out Cancer” tour. I am going to drive cross country hoping to do my part in bringing awareness to the need for more research and funding to eradicate this horrible disease that has affected the lives in one way or another of probably everyone reading this post.
My plan is to leave NJ sometime in the late Spring, making 10 stops on my way cross country, and then 10 stops on the way back. At each of these stops, I am going to make a donation to a Cancer Facility with the request that the donation go to someone undergoing cancer treatment who really needs a helping hand.
I have set up a Gofundme account to raise funds for the donations. (Please note: I am not asking for help with my travel expenses)
My goal to is make a $250 donation at every stop, making my total fundraising goal $5000. The name of each person making a donation will be included on the cards left at each stop (unless you tell me not to)
Cancer has taken enough precious lives, and what I’m doing is just a small thing. But it’s something!
Thank you in advance.
