Justice for Ziggy

Donation protected
On March 19th, during a chilly Sunday evening in Bed-Stuy, Laura Stephen was walking with her 6 year-old-dog Ziggy, enjoying the last day of winter. Ziggy went to explore in some bushes, when suddenly two police officers appeared. The female officer asked Laura to put Ziggy on a leash and she complied, calling out to him. Tragically, and without any warning, the male officer withdrew his gun and fired twice at Ziggy. As Ziggy fought for his life, bleeding onto the snowy grounds of our beloved park, the NYPD delayed medical attention for almost an hour before allowing him to be transported. We're beyond devastated to report that Ziggy passed away from this reckless and needless act of violence.

Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Ziggy knew him to be angel, a teddy bear.  He was a cherished member of the Saratoga Park community. While nothing can bring him back to Laura, we hope to help her shoulder the burden of laying Ziggy to rest, and to find some justice for his innocent life.

If you have ever loved an animal, you might be able to imagine a fraction of the pain and devastation Laura and her  family has endured. Our tight knit community will continue to fight for them and we appreciate your love and support.

All dogs go to heaven. Rest easy Ziggy.
