Lucas' Fight Against Child Cancer
At 8 years old, Lucas is the youngest of three boys. He always has a smile on his face and is one of the sweetest boys you’ll meet.
On March 29, 2016, Lucas was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma. The doctors have said he will undergo months of treatment and chemotherapy. He has been given a 20-30% survival rate. He has a very large and rapidly growing tumor in his lower abdominal/ groin area and has metastisized in his bone marrow
My brother, Robert and my sister-in-law Karina, are amazing parents and both work full time to support their family. Like a lot of families, they live pay check to pay check. Robert is a self-employed piano tuner and does well supporting his family, but unfortunately does not have any benefits for time off to take care of his son. His wife also does not have any paid time off during treatment.
This is where family, friends, and community steps in. As his brother, I want to help relieve the financial anxiety of raising a family and travel costs for chemo. Please help my brother and his family in their courageous fight against cancer. Every little bit will help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
**I will be updating this page as more information comes in on treatment details.** You can also follow his facebook at https://www.facebook.com/LoveforLuki
He's gasping for air, blood oxygen plummeting . Just got a shot of morphine to help take away the pain of suffocation.
His Mother Karina Jones, his Father Robert Jones, big brothers Diego and Alex are all in his bed with him. Uncle Willie, Aunt Ashley, cousins Addie and Parker are here too.
The sounds are horrible, my child is literally having the life choked out of him by an incurable cancer.
Please, please, please do something about this so other families and children might not have to suffer this god aweful experience, simply because we don't have funding for pediatric cancer research.
He had an "External Ventricular Drain" put in his brain on Monday. As long as it is in there, we can't leave the ICU. (He can't even move his pillow or reposition himself in the bed with out a nurse to adjust the drain)
With out it: excruciating pain, coma, death.
But as long as its in, we can't leave the ICU.
Either way, the cancer continues to grow and spread through his brain at an exponential rate.
"Lucas isn't really responsive right now. He lies there like he's asleep but with his eyes open. He will just suddenly pop up, and talk and interact - sometimes for just a few minutes, sometimes for an hour, but it's pretty random. When he gets back on steroids Sunday, we would expect to start seeing more "on" time building up, until we have to taper off again for next Friday's chemo he does every week. Usually falls on Friday's, unless we get off schedule for something. Heavy chemo, every 7 days, until we decide to let him pass.
I just want to say that i am so sorry this is happening to your son especially at such a young age. Please keep your faith and be strong you have a long road but he will be healed just put him in gods hands and Mom you have to be very strong for your Baby i have been right where you are now . Wishing you the best and lots of Prayers for you Family...
I definitely know your pain. My youngest daughter had cancer when she was 8. They gave her 4 to 6 weeks to live. My job fired me as soon as they found out she 'might' have cancer (pre biopsy). It was a very hard time for our family. We lost everything material. BUT she survived and is now a healthy 23 y.o. Keep affirming positive thoughts and prayers. Your nephews mental state plays a very vital part in his healing. I am again fighting as my husband needs a heart transplant immediately. Please know that my heartfelt prayers are with your entire family. One suggestion. Keep him away from all forms of processed sugar as it rapidly feeds cancer. Also look up Dr. Sebi on youtube. My friend had stage 4 cancer and began following his dietary suggestions and she is now healthy and off all her cancer meds. GOD BLESS YOU!
Father God, I lift up this baby in Jesus name. Your word says children are the heritage of the Lord, I pray that a supernatural healing take place in his body and he'll be fully restored back to good health. I believe that you are the ultimate decision maker and this baby can beat this cancer no matter what the doctors say. Cure him in Jesus name. I ask that you give his family a peace that surpasses all understanding, wrap your loving arms around them and this child, fill their hearts with a peace and comfort that can only come from you. I thank you in advance for all you do and all you're gonna do. Amen.
Hello, my son Patrick was diagnosed with rhabdo in 2012 at age 17 & went thru 54 weeks of a clinical trial at ETCH. Please check into Pediatric Rhabdo Support Group on FB. You will find others who are going thru or have gone thru this journey you are embarking on. I found comfort talking to other parents there. If ever you want someone local to speak with, don't hesitate to contact me. Lucas & your family are in my prayers. I've asked Patrick's support system to pray as well. God Bless.
I have had cancer 3 times and I know how traumatizing it can be, and especially terrifying for such a little man. I can't express how sorry I am or how much positive energy I sending your way. I'll do what I can but if you need someone to talk to who hastill been there multiple times, you can always message me.
Our son Reid was diagnosed with neuroblastoma stage 4 in march 2015 at age 5. We were devistated. He had a large tumor in his abdomen which had metastasized into his bone marrow. He has gone through several rounds of chemo, a surgery and bone marrow transplant. As of today, one year later, his scans are clear and he is cancer free. Keep the faith and trust in God, always. God bless Lucas and his family. We will be praying for you.

GOD IS ABLE TO HEAL YOUR SON!!!...hold on to Gods promises and your faith, stay strong and when you can longer take it, call on the Lord..he is in control, just remember this....GOD HAS THE LAST WORD!!!...we will keep your son and your family in our prayers❤....we pray for LUCAS TO BE HEALED FROM CANCER in the NAME OF JESUS!!
I do not know you, but your story has touched my heart...I want to tell you a story of HOPE. My niece dated a young man at around 17 years old who had a miraculos recovery from FULL BLOWN Stage 4 Cancer, the cancer was everywhere in his body! The report about how bad it was and the fact that the doctors had no more treatments for him and he was going to pass away in the next few weeks was accidentally faxed to his home by mistake, no sugar coating on it, death was eminent...Well, guess what... he didn't die like the doctors said he was going to. He went for a visit to the doctor a few weeks after reading the horrifying news about himself, and when they did a bunch of new tests(because he had started feeling SO much better), the cancer was COMPLETELY GONE out of his body...that was 10 years ago and has not had ANY reoccurrence. My point in telling you this story, is to say"Never give up HOPE" things DO happen, miracles can and DO happen....I am praying for a Miracle for your son, God Bless!

I just wanted to let you know that my family is Praying for your son, you & your whole family. We went to similar circumstances with our oldest child. He was 11 years old when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is a form of bone cancer. He went to Heaven a little over a year ago, at the age of 16 years old. We took him to 4 different hospital's out of town & tried so many treatments, including the marinal pills, which is a synthetic form of Marijuana in a pill. He has numerous surgeries. I'm here to talk if you ever want to talk. The Dr's say I have major severe depression & severe or panic attacks & insomnia. I do go to Church weekly & am very religious. Praying God watches over your son today, tomorrow & alway's!

Hi i just wanted to say that I just ran into your brother's story and it has me in tears. I don't have money, living paycheck to paycheck as well. If there's anything else i can do to help, let me know. I know how it feels to have a family member with cancer. Your brother and family members and in my thoughts constantly. Everything will be ok, it will. It has it, right! It's just a test of our strength, like when baby was in the nicu for a month. You don't realize how strong you are until, strong is all you can be. No one is given a test they can't handle. I have epilepsy for 19 yrs and counting... your brother is a warrior, get him a cape or some warrior paint. Let him know! Let him know. Because I know. Sending love and prayers.
I cannot fathom the pain as parents that you're experiencing. I am praying for Lucas, that his last days are peaceful and pain-free. I am praying that God give your family strength, comfort and peace.
