Zeitgeist renovations/improvements

Zeitgeist Multi-disciplinary Arts Center has been bringing alternative art to New Orleans for over 30 years. We are a entirely artist run, non-profit media arts center that presents art house films, music, performance and visual art nightly, We operate without any grants or public funds, but do more programming than any other non-profit art organization in the entire metro area. We operate on admissions, concessions, donations and memberships. So after paying film rentals, artist fees, rent, utilities and other operating expenses little if anything left over for improvements.

Our programming is world renowned and Zeitgeist is considered one of the premiere art house venues in the South, but because of fiscal limitations our physical space and projection and sound equipment has not always lived up to the level of our programming.  We are tired of being "shabby sheik".  It's time to upgrade.

We are currently trying to raise funds to make some much needed improvements to our space. If you appreciate Zeitgeist and all we have contributed to the cultural climate of New Orleans for the past 30 years and are in a position to make a donation, it will be greatly appreciated and used to greatly improve the seating, projection, visibility and comfort of our space at 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.

Zeitgeist improvements:

wider projection screen

brighter (6000 lumen or higher) HDMI projector

3 new ceiling fans with lights (fan and lights on dimmers) from the center beam to aid our AC during hotter months

6 new matching couches for the front of our seating area

16 small cabaret tables

75 new matching theater chairs

new light fixtures for facade that illuminate our poster display

new lights for signs to increase our visibility at night

new lights for window display

extend the AC duct to better distribute the air throughout the space

renovate the bathrooms which have become riddled with graffiti by wallpapering the walls with old movie posters and new curtains.

build wrap around and shelves for box office and concessions

Zeitgeist has a long experience of doing a lot with very little money, so anything you donate will go a long way in improving our space.

Zeitgeist is ready to begin work on PHASE TWO of our improvements to the space, but we need your help.

We are currently trying to raise funds and find volunteers to make Zeitgeist a more comfortable and attractive space. We have world class programming and we want our venue and the quality of our presentations to reflect that as well.

Here is a list of the improvements we are hoping to make before the end of the Summer.

1. purchase 6 new couches and 4 to 6 lounge chairs

2. purchase and install 3 low hanging ceiling fans from center beam

3. Purchase and hang dark sound and light baffling curtains hung half length beneath the fans from metal plumbing pipes from the center wooden beam

4. Dark black or grey curtains/Masking for screen

5. install dimmers on the house lights

6. renovate our 2nd bathroom

7. purchase 8 cabaret tables for back area

8. custom build shelves on back wooden divider to open a collective video rental store

9. build a small DJ/projection booth, clean up back of theater, organize all chords and equipment

10. purchase a new sound system (2 Bose Towers)

11. improve the lighting for our outdoor sign and poster case

12. hang small industrial lampshades hanging over concessions, video rental area

13. create a DJ booth for after screenings, happy hour, receptions, etc

This could be really great. Please help make it a reality.

With the money donated so far we are buying and installing the ceiling fans and improving out lighting. New Sofa's and a bigger screen are next followed by a new projector then the cabaret tables and new chairs.
