Aloha. Allow me to share the story of two awesome lifelong friends, Kate and Todd. Kate was my wife Beth's best friend growing up. Todd was mine. The two met for the first time at our wedding, and the connection was almost instant. Two years later, they got married. Kate is one of the strongest people I know. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in her mid 30's. It was Todd who first discovered the lump. She underwent a double mastectomy and several rounds of chemo. She is a fighter, and today she is a proud survivor.
In 2011, in celebration of their friendship and Kate's successful fight, Beth had the priviledge of joining Kate for a well deserved vacation in Maui. It was there that Kate introduced Beth to Stand Up Paddleboarding. An instant love for the sport was hatched. They have since participated in several east coast paddleboard races.
We live near many great state parks with awesome lakes, which offer very affordable day trips or short vacations, and the opportunity to get out and enjoy the water, paddle, and build fitness. It has been Beth's dream to have her own board to be able to enjoy the sport more. It has also been my desire to provide that board. Thus far it has not fit into the budget. That is where you, the awesome crowdfunder, and possible paddleboard lover come in.
In honor of our awesome friend and breast cancer survivor, and to give an amazing surprise and possible anniversary gift to my wife, I am starting this campaign to raise the funds to purchase a unique Riviera Stand Up For the Cure pink paddleboard. It is my understanding that a portion of the board purchase will go to Susan G Komen, or another breast cancer research entity. The goal is to raise $1500, which will cover the cost of the board, paddle, leash, and bag. If my math is correct, it would take roughly 1650 paddleboard lovers each contributing $1.30 to reach the goal. Of course I would be forever grateful for someone reading this story and feeling compelled to contribute much more.
