Hi! We are a Newtown team of 5th grade students who earned one of the top scores in the CT state Odyssey of the Mind competition. As a result, we have earned a spot to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in May at Iowa State University. Wow! We are so proud to be able to represent CT and the town of Newtown - but we need YOUR help to get there!
Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition where students apply STEM concepts and creativity to solve problems ranging from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.
The invitation to World Finals means that Newtown will be represented among 800 teams from 25 countries!
It turns out that going to Worlds costs a lot of money. We need to pay for travel, housing and expenses for our team and our coach. We also need to pay to ship our props to Iowa. It is a 4-day competition, and we estimate that the total of all of these expenses will be over $10,000.
Our team has worked so hard to get to this point and we are hoping that we can count on the generous support of our friends, family, and community to get us to Iowa to compete.
Our goal is to raise the money to fund this trip by the second week in May. Please give whatever you can - no amount is too small - and MANY THANKS for your support!
