Deputy Richard Whitten

Donation protected
On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Deputy Richard Whitten was en route to a training class for Liberty County Sheriff's Office.  As he was travelling down Hwy 321 out of Cleveland, he came upon a shooting in progress at a local plumbing company and responded to the call.  Deputy Whitten identified the suspect that had shot 3 people at a local business, leaving one dead and two critically injured.  Deputy Whitten began pursuing the suspect as he fled into a local veterinary clinic about 2 miles from the original scene.  As Deputy Whitten was exiting his patrol car, the offender fired his weapon, shooting Richard in the neck.  Richard was flown by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann The Medical Center in Houston Texas.  He has been listed in critical condition with bullet fragments injuring his cervical and thoracic vertebrae resulting in paralysis of both legs and his left arm.

We know Richard faces a long rehabilitation and will require not only special equipment, but home modifications to make his daily life easier to manage and help his transition from rehabilitation to home as seamless as possible.

The goal of this page is to allow him and his family to focus on his recovery without worrying about the related expenses that this injury will incur.

This page is the only OFFICIAL page for Deputy Richard Whitten, and is being set up by his family and friends.

Richard is a brave and heroic man that would always step up and take the call to protect his fellow man.  At the time of the incident, Richard was on his way to a training class, not on patrol, but he did not hesitate to answer the call to duty.

Richard loves his family.  He has been married to his best friend and soulmate, Kami,  for 18 years.  He has 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren, as well as lots of fur babies that he loves dearly.

Please help us shower Richard with love, prayers ad support for his ongoing recovery.

All the funds donated will go directly to Deputy Richard Whitten.
