In November, 2016, my 16 year old son, Payton, was diagnosed with Stage IV Adenocarcinoma of the esophago-gastric junction (Esophageal Cancer). Payton underwent chemotherapy treatment which made him very ill and he was unable to attend school for his sophomore year. He responded well to treatment and after 6 cycles of chemo, his PET scan revealed that his tumor was gone and there were no signs of cancer! He went through 6 more cycles of treatment and received another clean scan. Since Payton’s cancer had metastasized, he has been diagnosed with an incurable cancer, he continued with an alternate chemotherapy treatment which provided him a better quality of life.
In May, 2018, Payton started experiencing severe back pain and a scan revealed his cancer had returned. The area of concern is a 3cm area in his abdomen. Payton underwent 15 rounds of radiation and had his 2nd round of his new chemotherapy treatment.
Payton’s new chemo treatment quickly caused him to lose his hair, which has caused lots of anxiety. But, even worse are the mouth sores, extreme fatigue, and weakened immune system.
Although we’re told Payton’s cancer is incurable and he'll need treatment for the rest of his life, we believe God is in control. We pray daily for a miracle ❤️ Where there is life, there is hope!
