Good Day "Sunshine" Fund

$6,060 of $7,000 goal

Raised by 151 people in 50 months
UPDATE
Donations to The Sunshine Fund have leveled off and most of her major medical expenses have been covered thanks to your caring and generosity. Castle West Animal Hospital has been extremely conscientious about providing her with the best care possible while keeping costs down and have done a fabulous job of both! As a result, Sunshine was able to share some of her donations with other pets in urgent immediate need of funds in the last few weeks.

We will keep The Sunshine Fund ongoing to help other street dogs (and the occasional cat) in need to honor all of you who came to Sunshine's aid when she needed you the most. We will post updates of the pets that are assisted through your generosity. Major cases like Sunshine's will most likely have their own fundraising campaigns, but The Sunshine Fund can help provide a base of funds to allow us to get immediate treatment started for many pets without having to raise the funds first.

Sunshine and every pet that is eventually helped through your donations thank you from the bottom of their hearts for giving them the opportunity to live a full, fear-free, disease-free and injury-free life!

Pause for Paws is committed to helping street dogs in need whenever possible and YOU make it possible! Thank you!

**************************
This dog, now known as Miss Caron Sunshine (aka Sunshine), was spotted under an abandoned house on the south side of San Antonio by a Good Samaritan who was shocked by her wasted condition and the open sores all over her body.  The Good Samaritan called Pause for Paws who contacted SOS-SATX, a group of rescue volunteers, for assistance.  Volunteers searched the area in an effort to locate the dog.  By chance, one of the volunteers was at Animal Care Services (ACS) and recognized her!  Sunshine had been picked up by ACS who has released her to Pause for Paws.  She is currently receiving treatment at Castle West Animal Hospital.

Sunshine has obviously suffered greatly on the streets of San Antonio.  In spite of her weakened state, she has demonstrated a tremendous will to survive and live! During her initial evaluation, a blood transfusion was ordered and she may need several more in the next few days.  Sunshine has a long road to recovery.  She is expected to remain at Castle West for at least a month before she can go to a foster home.

Miss Caron Sunshine’s medical care and rehab is expected to be close to $5,000.  Tax-deductible donations to help with Sunshine’s medical care may be made to this fund (no amount is too small).  Or you may donate directly to our vet clinic at Castle West Animal Hospital, 11105 West Avenue, San Antonio, TX  78213 under the account Pause for Paws.  Any funds raised that are not needed for Sunshine will be used to help other sick and injured street dogs.  Thank you!

We will keep supporters updated with photos of Sunshine’s progress and recovery.

Lisa Plummer Savas just wrote an amazing blog about Sunshine that we'd like to share with all you! Please click on the link or copy/paste to your browser - we promise, this is exceptionally well-written and captures Sunshine's journey from being on the brink of death to being a treasured little Diva!

Sunshine has been a very busy girl this week! She is pawing it forward for everyone who came to her rescue and care over the past 3 months!

She welcomed a little cat to Castle West that was the victim of torture and abuse who had thick rubber bands tightly wound around two legs - one of her legs had to be amputated and the other leg is slowly healing with treatment.

Then she was called upon to help calm and distract a recently rescued stray that had somehow escaped his crate while at a foster home and was in panic mode and trying to climb a 6ft fence to escape.....
Ready to calm and distract another dog!

Potential adopters - please note!!! Sunshine will need a spot on the bed with her very own pillow.

Sunshine made a surprise appearance at the Petsmart store where Pause for Paws sets up every weekend to get rescued street dogs adopted. She looked absolutely stunning in her beautiful custom-made onesie from Pajamas for Pitties! Customers and fans alike crowded around the little "celebrity" and took pictures with Sunshine. She took everything in stride and did extremely well in a somewhat chaotic environment with lots of people and dogs around. We are so proud of the progress she has made - this is truly a miracle from the dog that was found half dead on the streets 2 months ago to the polished diva that she is today! Yay Sunshine!
Must be able to sleep on bed in new home
Oops! Photo bombed....lol

So glad to see she is pawing it forward- what a great heart this girl has. Like Bonnie Rose, I am torn between desire to help and financial ability… the updates make me feel like I've done a bit of good in the world.

Wow! She's looking good! Her coloring looks a little like my Happy - white fur with dark skin spots. He's a chunky 65ish pound pit/lab/pointer/who-knows-what mix. She's gonna be pretty!!!!
