20 For 20- Saving 20 Lives

Hello, everyone! First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to check out this page! My name is Brandon and I am currently a junior at Auburn University. In my time at Auburn I have done a lot of volunteering at the Lee County Humane Society. As I approached my 20th birthday, I started brainstorming ideas for presents to suggest when my family members began asking what they should get me. I was unable to think of anything good when the idea hit me... 20 dogs. I wanted to rescue 20 dogs. One for each year of my life. Not the tiniest, fuzziest puppies, but adult dogs who are even more desperate to find homes.
After a brief discussion with my mother, it was made clear that this was not a very reasonable gift... Well at least not for me alone. So I have decided to use GoFundMe to raise money to pay the adoption fees ($105) for 20 adult dogs at LCHS, making the dogs FREE to adopters. My gift, with the help of the money brought in by this page, will be giving the gift of a companion to 20 adopters looking to open their homes to homeless dogs!
Even with many animals in foster homes, there are just too many homeless pets! LCHS is currently pressed for space to the point where dogs have been adopted out for FREE this last week! I do not believe that they should have to sacrifice bringing in money that can help future animals just because there simply isn't the capacity for these dogs. I hope to make more people aware of this issue to help LCHS and all the animals they help!
While volunteering at the humane society I have seen plenty of intelligent and loving dogs who are overlooked simply because they are older. Puppies are lucky because their age makes them appealing to adopters. So many people come in looking for a puppy and who can blame them? They are soft and cuddly and playful, but those same puppies eventually grow-up (some much larger than others) and just because a dog is full grown, it doesn't mean it can't be as much fun as a puppy!
I hope that by paying the adoption fees for these animals we can inspire their adopters to go out and do something positive. Maybe they will pay-it-forward and pay a portion of another animal's adoption fee or maybe they will just take the money they would have spent on the adoption and shower their new doggy in treats and toys. Regardless, I know that doing this will not only help make some room for incoming animals at LCHS, but it will also give 20 dogs fresh, new lives! I am doing nothing more than setting the stage for this to take place. I cannot take full credit for the outcome of this, because without the donations of all of you, this idea of mine is just that; an idea. I need the donations of many caring and supportive individuals to help this plan come to fruition. I just hope that my idea inspires people to donate and help grant my 20th birthday wish!
Like anything posted on the Internet, I understand that my idea may fall subject to a lot of criticism. Some arguments I have considered are, "If people cannot afford the adoption fee, they cannot afford the other expenses that come with owning a dog," and, "If the dogs are free of fees then there will be nothing to deter someone with cruel intentions from adopting a dog." To these criticisms I must say that I am not just buying 20 dogs and giving them to people on the street. Adopters will still have to go through the LCHS application process to ensure that the dogs are going to loving and prepared homes.
