In memory of Dr. Massimo D'Acierno

Massimo D'Acierno was an Italian veterinarian who graduated with honours in 1999 from the Clinical Surgery Institution of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Milan.
He quickly specialised in exotic animals, a field for which he was a speaker at numerous national scientific updating events hosted by SIVAE (Italian Veterinary Society for Exotic Animals), of which was long-time partner.
Massimo held many lectures in universities and international locations, his expertise in the areas of surgery, anaesthesiology and unconventional medicine for wild and zoo animals particularly stood out on these occasions. In 2012 he was among the Italian speakers at the Reptile and Amphibian Medicine International Conference; the Italian Association of Prairie Dogs (AICDP) awarded him with the 2012 Sansone Award for his research on pseudo-odontomas in this breed; in 2013 he was accredited by the National Circus Authority, for the protection of circus animals.
He was the Sole Health Director from 2008 of the Veterinary Clinic Turro in Milan.
His life and work tragically ended on July 4, 2013 following a motorcycle accident that took his life on the way to work, but his message of love, passion and professionalism for animals still lives on.
The Facebook page opened in his memory has reached over a thousand friends, SIVAE has dedicated a scholarship in his name for young veterinary graduates that prepare their graduation thesis on exotic animals.
His family has opened this crowdfunding to raise money for this scholarship so it can live on over the years, as well as to donate funds to associations that deal with the protection of animals. All of this for one reason only, to ensure that the love that he had wholeheartedly given to animals and other four-legged creatures continues to grow and live on his memory.

"Massimo D'Acierno era un veterinario italiano, laureato a pieni voti nel 1999 presso l'Istituto di Clinica Chirurgica della Facoltà di Medicina Veterinaria di Milano.
Si era occupato ben presto di animali esotici, settore che l'aveva visto relatore nazionale a numerosi eventi di aggiornamento scientifico della SIVAE ( Società Italiana Veterinari Animali Esotici ) di cui era socio di lunga data.
Le sue docenze, in sedi universitarie ed internazionali, si distinguevano in particolare nei campi della chirurgia, l'anestesiologia e la medicina degli animali non convenzionali, selvatici e da zoo. Nel 2012 era stato tra i relatori italiani della International Conference on Reptile and Anphibian Medicine; l'Associazione Italiana Cani della Prateria ( AICDP) gli aveva conferito il premio Sansone 2012 per le sue ricerche sulla displasia pseudodontomatosa in questa razza; nel 2013 era stato accreditato nel registro dell'Ente Nazionale Circhi, per la tutela degli animali dei circhi.
Era Direttore Sanitario unico dal 2008 della Clinica Veterinaria Turro a Milano.
La sua vita e il suo lavoro si sono interrotti il 4 Luglio 2013 in seguito ad un incidente di moto che l'ha colto mentre andava al lavoro, ma il suo messaggio di grande amore, passione e professionalità per gli animali vive tutt'ora.
La pagina Facebook aperta in sua ricordo ha raggiunto i 1000 amici, e la SIVAE gli ha dedicato una borsa di studio per giovani laureati veterinari con tesi sugli animali esotici.
La sua famiglia ha aperto questo crowdfunding per raccogliere fondi da devolvere alla borsa di studio a lui dedicata , e ad associazioni che si occupano della tutela degli animali. Per fare in modo che l'amore che ha elargito a piene mani aiuti altre creature a quattro zampe.
