Young Jonpauls fight for life

Donation protected
Last Thursday, 8 year old Jonpaul was a fit and healthy little boy - he had a minor accident at school and got his leg caught in a door. He complained of a sore leg, but nothing would prepare anyone for the nightmare that unfolded in the few hours thereafter.

Taken to Darwin hospital with a sore leg, the doctors diagnosed him with what was to be believed as a super bug a strain of golden staf called MRSSA. The bug was so aggressive Jonpaul was put on lifesupport within 24hours of admission. Under specialist care the bug has now been identified as MASA acting like MRSA.

Jonpaul was induced into a coma with assisted breathing while the medical team fight to prevent the bug attacking taking his little organs. His leg swelled to the extent that doctors had to perform a Fasciotomy (surgical cuts in his leg to relieve the pressure). The bug has already targeted his lungs, causing one lung to collapse and he has been put dialysis to support his kidney function. His heart has enlarged under the strain of fighting the super bug.

Jonpaul requires specialist hospital care at an specialist hospital in Adelaide and will be transferred when stable to do so.  Careflight will do the phenomenal job of transferring Jonpaul, but his single Dad needs immediate practical support for flights, accommodation and ongoing expenses whilst he attends to Jonpauls bedside during this terrifying time. His Dad has not left Jonpauls bedside, sleeping in a chair next to him and talking to him, encouraging him with his loving voice.

Jonpauls recovery will be long and slow and we appreciate any support you can give wether it be, financial, prayers or positive thoughts.
