My Love For Teaching Global Citizenship
I am a grade five teacher, teaching out of Mississauga, Ontario. I can't express how passionate I am about teaching kids that what they do and say matters, that they can push themselves to achieve great things, and that they can make their mark on the world.

I'm particularly passionate about fostering global connections with my students whether it's through skyping a class from around the world to discuss current events, learning about new global citizens who stand for change, or participating in creative, global fundraising initiatives that encourage empathy and tangible change. We are all globally and digitally connected, thus making it more of our responsibility to help those in need all around the world.

My Frustration with Lack of Support and Technology
In order to connect globally and encourage real change in the world, my 30 students and I need adequate access to technology. The problem is that our ideas are moving faster than our current resources allow us to execute. In our class, we currently share 5 Chromebooks. Ideally, we could get much more done, if students were able to research and connect individually with a 1:2 Chromebook to student ratio. Unfortunately, our school cannot fully fund such a request, though we are fortunate to have the 5 Chromebooks.

My Students:
My students LOVE learning beyond textbooks and worksheets. Education is and must move forward. My students are intelligent, kind, innovative, and inspirational people eager to help. I'm with 30 highly creative and passionate students...PEOPLE... every single day and we're passionate about making changes. These 30 great minds wish to take action!

As a teacher ready to embark on this endeavour with her students, it is incredibly frustrating knowing what is needed to engage and encourage her students, but unable to afford it. We can and we will make a positive difference around the world, as well as right here in our city of Toronto with your help!

Our Projects for This Year:

We have the time and are willing to dedicate it to the following  student-generated projects:

-Raising awareness and funds to support people living in Attawapiskat
-Raising awareness and funds to support clean drinking water in Northern Ontario
-Lobbying the government on the importance of healthy eating and policy changes regarding food labelling and marketing
-Creating online anti-bullying content
-Partnering with a school overseas to problem-solve health problems put forth by the WHO
-Partnering with a school overseas to discuss and problem-solve conflict between countries
-Partnering with a school overseas to discuss conservation and plans for reducing our ecological footprint

Each year, the list grows and grows, whether it's wanting to help incoming Syrian refugees, organizing a can food drive, or donating a box at Christmas to a family in need, these kids WANT TO HELP in any way they can. They would benefit from additional technology to conduct their research and reach out to those they wish to help.

Please help us to help others. Please help us get better access to technology to help up research and connect with the inspiring world around us!

Anything is greatly appreciated! My students will be so thrilled to learn we raised any money at all and will surely get to work helping others.
