School Supplies for Students in Need!

$1,024 of $1,500 goal

Hi everyone!

This year, I will be teaching at Tafolla Middle School in San Antonio ISD. I will be a Behavior Unit Teacher (self-contained classroom). For those of you that do not know what a self-contained/behavior unit is, it is a classroom that is specifically for students with emotional/behavioral disorders.

Tafolla Middle School is a Title 1 school, which means the majority of the student population are living in or on the line of poverty. As a Title 1 school, our fundings are very limited and often times do not have enough to support our students without having teachers pay out of pocket in order to support their classroom and students.

Many of these students also are considered "at-risk" of dropping out of school. Middle school is such an important age. This is when we are on a constant search of our identities and stress about our self-worth. Without the proper school supplies, school can be such a stressful place. Not being able to afford the things we take for granted is a difficult place to come from.

As you guys know (or maybe you don't), teachers are not given much to get their classroom prepped with school supplies, decorations, and etc. We may receive anywhere from $200-400 a year to build a class library, have a well decorated classroom, and even have school supplies readily available for students. We are to use money from our own pocket if the allotted money is not enough. Not to mention prizes, parties, and other fun activities to do that also ends up costing money.

This is where you come in. Schools thrive off of fundraisers and although $1500 may not seem like a lot for a school that has over 800 students... it is a start!

I created this gofundme account to help not just my classroom but also the students and teachers at Tafolla Middle School to help stock up on the necessity school supplies and to create a classroom library where the students will be able to check out books. I am also taking in donations of school supplies as well!

Some of the things we need are:
- pencils
- markers (big and skinny!)
- color pencils
- packs of printer paper (LOTS AND LOTS)
- contruction paper
- colored printer paper
- pencil pouches/boxes
- crayons
- glue (liquid and glue sticks)
- scissors (big and kid friendly)
- tape
- notebooks
- composition books
- notebook paper (LOTS!!)
- folders (with and without brackets)
- binders (1"-1.5")
- dividers
- sheet protectors
- rulers
- Germ-X/hand sanitizer
- Kleenex

I appreciate any donation no matter how small! Thank you guys for all that you do. You are truly making a difference!!! :)

Hello everyone,
I really appreciate the donations and have used it to purchase many of the school supplies. However, we are not done yet.

I recently found out that the school that I will be teaching at is considered an "IR" school. When a school is an "IR" it means "Improvement Required". This means majority of our students did not pass the state assessment exams. Tafolla is now in its second year of being an "IR" school.

Students thrive off of structure and security. What better way to support our future generation than to provide school supplies to ensure their learning, and books to use as resources to expand their knowledge.

I always tell my students that as community members, it is our duty to help others in need. Please help me prove to these students that even in the darkest times, there will always be a helping hand.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached 1/3 of our goal! Thank you to everyone who donated. Please continue to share and to spread the word!

I have received the keys to my classroom. I am in desperate need of tables, bookshelves, crates, and organization shelving units. The future donation will now go towards these items. As you know, it is not cheap. If you have any items to donate, please give me a call/text (214-288-2732)!

Please continue to share! Any and ALL donations are welcome and greatly appreciated! Thank you guys again!

I just wanted to give an update on how everything is going. So far, I have bought supplies but not everything! I am now buying books and other materials that will create a safe and warm learning environment. As you know, this usually doesn't come cheap (no matter how hard I try to find those bargain deals!)

We have come so far! We've surpassed $400, but we need an extra push to keep us headed to our goal.

If you have any middle-school level books (fiction and non-fiction) and would like to donate them, please let me know!

I am also in need of more organization supplies, because let's be real... Kids need structure, and structure only thrives off of organization.

ALL donations are greatly appreciated! No number is too small!

I will be posting up a video of the school and my classroom sometime next week! Stay in tune!
