Robert Diehl Memorial Scholarship

Robert K Diehl died June 10, 2015, and because he taught himself so many trades, (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, furniture making, builder of computers, and auto and appliance repairs), this scholarship is set up to help aid students with these trades that he enjoyed and excelled in.

He was born in Colon, Panama, on November 28, 1937, to Lieutenant Donald B. Diehl, USAF, and Ruth Elizabeth (Mimi) Diehl. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Suzanne, and four daughters, Victoria Clinton, Jennifer (Steve) Smith, Elizabeth Foster and Laura (Marcus) Herrington, and seven grandchildren, AJ, Joshua, Christopher (deceased), Maegann, Imre, Ana Maria, Robert and William.

He spent many years working for KQED PBS TV in San Francisco and became the remote supervisor and helped design the first remote truck and produced the first satellite production for KQED. He did remotes in other countries for the Armed Forces TV Network that included sports, cultural event and rock concerts. While working for KQED, he assisted NASA with lazar distance measurement of the moon from earth and the Jupiter Fly-By satellite. He became chief engineer at WCPX, Channel 6, in Orlando in 1982, and was actively involved in the design of their new station building. He oversaw the installation of new equipment without losing any airtime. He was also active with NAB and other local stations. He was an early employee of the fledging Golf Channel. He worked with Harris Corporation teaching nationwide PBS stations how to convert from analog to digital TV. He taught Mobile Satellite Systems for transmitting and receiving signals at several US Army Posts for Federal Solutions. He played trombone in high school and continued with a Dixieland jazz band in California in the 70's.  He enjoyed water sports and was an innovative skier, board diver, swimmer and lifeguard in high school and in college at Tulane University in Louisiana. He was a recreational scuba diver. He enjoyed target practice and was a member of the NRA. He was a lifelong blood donor. He was a gentleman, a good man, husband, father, son, grandpa, friend, and brother. He was honest, loving, generous, loyal, very intelligent, had a good work ethic, and very good sense of humor, He was a patriotic "All American Man".
