YIEN - Taking Us Into The Future

Friends, we are coming to you at a time of urgent need in our community and time is of the essence.

Let us tell you a bit about who we are and why we are asking for your support.

In 1980, the Young Israel of East Northport opened its doors, under the leadership of Rabbi Chaim Bausk.

What began as an experiment nearly 40 years ago h
as become a thriving, vibrant community of families living lives enriched with Torah.  People scoffed at this young Rabbi and the idea of building a community and a Makom Torah in Suffolk County, and boy were they wrong.   Today the YIEN has a minyan nearly every morning and evening, a mikvah, an eruv, a kosher cafe, grocery stores packed with kosher foods and so much more.

Over time it became a popular spot for great classes, and guest speakers, NCSY, concerts, world-renouned learning programs like Aish HaTorah Discovery and great holidy events that are well attended by congregants and the larger Jewish community.

You can read more about the community below, but I want to get to the reason we set up this GoFundMe campaign.

Rabbi Bausk now finds himself in a position where he must pass the torch to a new leader and hand over this 36 year "experiment" to be carried forward for generations to come.

Over the years the YIEN moved from a rented storefront into its own building and with the help of the community the mortgage was paid off quickly! The small shul in the suburbs now had a permanent home.

A candidate with extended family just a few miles away has been found and he is eager to bring his large family with him to join this community.   However, unlike 40 years ago, finding a modest home on a modest salary in East Northport is today, no longer possible.

Our plan:  Just like we bought a shul to ensure it would be here for generations, we would now like to purchase a home to serve as the Rabbi's residence which will now be owned by the Young Israel of East Northport.

This purchase is critical to ensuring  that we can not only welcome our new Rabbi and his family today, but that we will always be able to attract energetic leadership to carry the community long into the future.

The funds we raise through this campaign will be used as the down payment to purchase a home just a few blocks from the shul.  The homes we have identifed as good prospects will require $150,000.00 for down payment and reasonable expenses.

Some important points to note as you consider supporting our community.

1.  YIEN has the means to cover the monthly mortgage on a quality home in the community.
2.  YIEN has no other outstanding debts.

You can rest assured that your contribution is in the hands of a community that cherishes and values your support and demonstrates their gratitude through solid financial stewardship as our history has shown.

We thank you for your consideration and look forward to making you a part of our extended family.

More About The Community
The Young Israel of East Northport began with Rabbi Chaim Bausk, who came out to exit 53 on the LIE and reached out to find the young families who became the foundation of the community.  These founders helped him build this shul - this beacon of Torah - in the suburbs of Long Island, far from the centers of Jewish life in the city.  This shul was built to be a home for every Jew, regardless of affiliation, background, Torah knowledge or observance.   His classes are famous and attended by Jews from all over the county.   Through the efforts of this synagogue and its extraordinary leader there are many families living Torah-driven lives of their own, whose children now have children of their own living Torah lives and bringing Yiddishkeit to others in the community and around the globe.

While other Suffolk synagogues are closing their doors, this is the only Orthodox synagogue in Suffolk County with a year-round daily morning and evening minyan.

For the last 15 years our community has been aging.  But now, we see more and more young families with children moving to our community.   East Northport has so much to offer young families including close proximity to the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County in Plainview,  comfortable suburban lifestyle, and the most warm and welcoming Jewish community around.

Please contact us at [phone redacted] to arrange a visit to our shul (see photo below) and be a part of our story.
