Help Us Find A Better Home

Donation protected

Myself and my two roommates have been trying to find the silverlining in the house we currently live in. Back in 2015 our house was robbed and we lost about 6k worth of our possessions which also included my means of working. It's been two years since the break in and I'm finally reaching a point where I'm no longer struggling to keep my head above water thanks to my rommates Craig and Al. Still, once I've had time to stop drowning I was able to finally take a long hard look at the house in which we live.  As such these are the things we've found wrong with the place;

-Not too long ago during a heavy rain one of the ceiling tiles fell from the ceiling and we discovered we'd had a leak.
Perhaps we should have noticed the water damage but when we moved in there was some water damage that had just painted over so we paid it no mind thinking the roof had been fixed if there had been a leak. We didn't really spend much time in the livingroom prior to Nov/December of 2016 so we really didn't have much to compare it to.

-Our ac is too small for this home and finds it hard to drain properly so we have to have it drain into a large tote.
We've had a lot of trouble with the AC since we moved in. We've contacted the landlord a few times before he passed away and it was pushed off onto his son but not much else was done with it. It's a sort of simple fix now but a lot of damage has been done + we'd need to get him to send someone out.

-Which brings me to the next point; Extensive water damage/mold on the carpet in the AC closet and in Craig's room due to the AC overflowing because it could not drain properly.
The mold can be steam cleaned away probably but there is a lot of water damage that is just there and done. At this point I'm concerned about the state of the floors.

-Floors in my room and Al's room were rushed and have cracks in it
When we first moved in we were so excited to have an affordable house that had 3 bedrooms within walking distance of the college that we admittedly overlooked some things. The floors in our rooms once had carpet that they just ripped up and painted over the bare floors under the carpet. There was no sanding done or anything which has led to very ugly, splintery floors not to mention as you can see from the picture, there are holes in the floor that just open right to the underside of the house.

-This brings me to another point; which is how poorly sealed and insulated this house is.
It might seem like a small gripe but this is a large and OLD house. Being so it's not well sealed nor insulated and the AC was tacked on as an after thought right before we moved in. This means that it doesn't retain heat or cold very well. In the winter it's not a HUGE deal because we can just bundle up. In the summer it's HORRIBLE because here tempteratures can get up to 100 degrees PLUS we have summer rates in ga which means cost of electricity almost doubles. With that our electricity bill has gotten as high as $400 per month for the 'summer' months which is like 4-5 months out of the year in Georgia.

-Safty concerns with break ins, mail, and even the house's security
Every since we've been broken into two years ago I've been TERRIFIED of leaving this house without someone here to watch the house. This neighborhood is not the best of the best. I figured, with it being near the college it would be, but it isn't at all. Even the local cops say this area near the college is bad. Even if we haven't been broken into, we have to watch our mailbox like a hawk or things get stolen. I, for instance, can no longer subscribe to things such as Gamefly because too many discs have been stolen when I've put them in there to send them out. I've had small bear keychains stolen out of my mailbox...nothing is sacred. Also, on top of that, there are some windows in my room that have been patched with flimsy plast panels that bow out. It would not take much for someone to push those out, break the divider and boom they're in our house. I know renters insurance is a thing we plan to look into, especially after the move to the new place but, once again, we live in a bad neighborhood and we JUST managed to get our head above water within the last month or so.

-Water damage under sinks, rotting floors, mold in ridiculous places, stuff just randomly breaking on the house almost too fast to fix; including the sink in the kitchen. Constant car accidents right infront of our house.
Some of this is just nitpicks that I don't want to go into right now BUT as you can see there is a lot up with this house and I can go on even further. The last point there though is mainly there because it is bad enough that, before we moved in, a cop drove right through the front of our house.

I know there are some people who might live in worse conditions than us, some whom have lost homes to disasters or live in abusive environments and this can't compared to that. Still, we've gotten to the point where it's just one thing after another in this home. I'm scared to really go anywhere with both of my roommates because I might not have anyone to watch the house. There's so much more wrong with the home to the point that I feel like it's a waste of my landlord's time to even fix at this point.

We've tried to live with it, and deal with it but finding the floor under the sink almost rotted through was really my breaking point. I really want to try to raise as much as I can with the help of my roommate craig but, since we'll also have to contine paying bills here for the time being, and I'm struggling to catch up even stillafter all the things that has happened over the past two years from being robbed, to the death of my father I'm not sure how much I can do quickly. We both need and want to get out of this house as soon as possible.

Anyone who donates over $100 I'd draw a thank you picture for you if you'd like! Everyone else you'll still get a huge thank you from me because ANY little bit helps me get where I need to go.  Maybe I'll be able to do something for a majority of those who donate or a freebie stream once we're moved!

Thank you for at least sharing or visiting this page. You have Craig, Al's and my gratitude!
