Yeni González is a Guatemalan woman who is currently detained at an ICE facility in Arizona. Her three children, ages 10, 8, and 5, have been transferred to NYC. // Yeni González es una guatemalteca que actualmente está detenida en un centro de ICE (inmigración) en Arizona. Sus hijos, 10, 8, y 5 años de edad, han sido trasladados a Nueva York.

Yeni CAN be reunited with her kids and we're determined to help her, working in conjunction with her attorney, to bond her out and bring her to NYC. // Yeni SÍ puede ser reunida con sus hijos. Y estamos determinados de ayudarla, colaborando con su abogado para postear su fianza y traerla a Nueva York.

Any funds raised beyond this goal will be used to reunite other families. // Cualquier fondo recaudado más allá de esta meta será utilizado para reunir a otras familias.

To do this, we need a whole team of supporters who are in this for the long haul -- people who can help in all sorts of ways, from making sure she's accompanied to appointments to ensuring her lodging, transportation, meals, and cell phone service are covered. We have a GoFundMe set up for the concrete expenses and needs -- the purpose of THIS form is to collect information about the skills and support you're willing and able to pitch in.

Thanks // Te agradecemos,
Francisco Collazo, Julie Schwietert Collazo & Maria Smilios

{EDITED TO ADD, AS PER GOFUNDME's REQUEST:

Who you are
We are parents and activists (and, in the case of Francisco and Julie, former counselors/social workers) who won't sit idly by while Trump eviscerates this country.

Where you're from
We all live in Queens, New York

Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for
We are not related to Yeni, but we are working in conjunction with her attorney, José Orochena.

How the funds will be used (be specific as possible)
We will be paying Yeni's ICE bond, transporting her from Arizona to NYC, and paying for her accommodations, transportation, food, cell phone, and other expenses, as well as providing her with support to attend appointments and reunite with her three children who are being held at a NYC-area facility.

How we are related to your beneficiary
We are not related to Yeni or José by blood. We are a community of concerned parents and citizens who don't support the current separation policy, and want to do our part to reunify Yeni with her children.

How will we be handling funds?
We will withdraw all donated funds to Julie. They will then be transferred to José (her attorney) or Yeni. Expenses to be paid include: ICE bond, transportation from Eloy, Arizona to NYC, lodging, food, transportation in NYC (MetroCards, ongoing), food, cell-phone, and other expenses Yeni may incur as part of her reunification, including but not limited to costs of preparing for her court appearances (copies of documents, etc).

Due to your incredibly generous donations, we are no longer taking donations for this family. But there are many other families in need - if you would like to donate (or encourage others to!) please direct funds to our other families in need, or our general fund. Thank you, again, for your generous donations and contributing to changing this family’s life.

Dear Generous Donors--

Sometimes, the phone rings and it's the best thing ever.
That's what happened last night, anyway.

Yeni received the phone call from Orochena: Her kids would be released to her Friday at 1 PM. THAT IS TODAY!

Julie was with her, and reports:

We all stopped eating and jumped up and hugged one another and then sat back down in disbelief, weeping over our plates.

IMAGINE:

This week has been so hard for Yeni and for her kids. She couldn't explain, and her kids didn't understand, why she could visit them during the day, but they couldn't leave with her.

When she received the news, she jumped up and started calling family to let them know: the worst part of her journey was finally coming to an end.

The road ahead of her is still long. But we are here for her for the long haul and she knows that. She sends her gratitude to all of you who have played a part in her story.

REMEMBER:

We cannot thank you enough, but we also would not have reached this goal so quickly without the steady backing of elected officials who have supported Yeni/detained immigrants and pressured for this process to be expedited. In particular C. Espaillat continues to rearrange his life to show up vocally and physically.

Remember, the families that have their worst fears resolved, even as they are still stuck in the unknown, are pulling for each other-- each mom asks that you fund and support the next. They/we know how this happens, and it only happens with you:

Dear Generous Donors--

A note from Julie, who is in consistent contact with Yeni:

Yeni is doing well and was able to see her kids today, and I was on hand to speak with the social worker in person and receive assurances that she will be able to see the kids every day this week.

I also got to meet the children -- entirely by coincidence, when they happened to get into the same elevator we were in.

The consistent visit agreement is due almost entirely to the intervention of Congressman Espaillat and his team, and we can't stress enough the importance of local elected officials' support of ending family separation and the zero tolerance policy.

As we have said before, this campaign and its urgency is spreading quickly.

If you are active on social media, and so inclined, you might post a link to our organization, Immigrant Families Together, any time your contacts post an article about this administration's mishandling of detainees.

Let them know we're working swiftly, raising money with vigor, and backed by some of the best immigrant law teams and most courageous elected officials in our country. Anyone can donate or volunteer. This began just because a bunch of angry moms jumped all in. Consistently posting this-- join join join-- sends a message of hope to keep us all from despair; consistent action to move the needle towards goodness & justice.

With heart,
Team Yeni-- & Immigrant Families Together.

Dear Generous Donors--

After so much transit and uncertainty and press, Yeni is settling in to NYC, her new rhythms and sources of support. And while there is so much beauty and progress to celebrate, let us not forget that the reunification process is long and arduous and filled with red tape. With the added pressure of compassionate elected officials and talented immigrant law teams, we hope to turn this into green tape ASAP.

A note from Julie:

We've been with Yeni this weekend in NYC and she looks SO ALIVE. She enjoyed a Guatemalan dinner at a local restaurant and has been exploring her neighborhood, and is looking forward to seeing her kids again on Monday.

She has also been in touch with the other two moms who you've liberated from ICE detention, and they are united in their faith and in their efforts to support other moms who remain in Eloy until that facility is emptied.

You can still help-- please continue to spread the word about this campaign, and do call to EITHER thank your elected officials, or encourage them to do the right thing.

Please savor what a difference every act of giving makes. Watching Yeni come alive is proof of the magic of swift action, unchecked generosity, and public outcry.

Here is our umbrella website for all the liberation and reunification efforts. One family at a time, we got this!
