Yandina Creek Quarry Fight

Donation protected
Quarry trucks and school buses on narrow flood prone dirt roads don’t mix!

The fight continues!  A proposed hard rock quarry along North Arm – Yandina Road, Yandina Creek was unanimously denied by local Council and subsequently overturned by the Planning and Environment Court on the basis the Developer would adhere and implement a series of conditions set by local Council.  The residents want to make sure these conditions are the most stringent possible  to ensure the safety and amenity of the local residents and community.

YCPA President Alex Watson said “We know that Coolum Yandina Road has tragically been the location of a number of serious and fatal accidents.  The extra 100 plus quarry trucks will increase the risk of accidents and rapidly deteriorate the road surface.  Who will pay for the upgrade and maintenance of these roads?   The community needs to be assured that the conditions under which this quarry was approved by the Planning & Environment Court provide for the safety and amenity of the community. “

The Yandina Creek Progress Association is going back to court to support the Sunshine Coast Council to ensure the stringent conditions are upheld to protect the residents and this precious biosphere. Without ensuring these strict conditions are in place it could result in:

· An operating quarry and quarry trucks along Toolborough Road (school bus route) but NO ROAD UPGRADE  for many,  many months

· The new road being of a standard that will require lots of maintenance and may not withstand our local flood prone areas.

· The Sunshine Coast Ratepayers bearing the financial cost of the road construction  and ongoing maintenance

We need a barrister to represent the local community in the Planning and Environment Court at a total of $20,000 by the 14 February 2017

Can you help?

Whether it’s $5 or $500 every little bit counts. The development of the quarry  will not only impact the local residents and environment, it risks  placing a financial burden on each and every rate payer across the Sunshine Coast. We need the Developer to be held accountable to these conditions and can’t do so without representation.
