Community Art Projects in Thailand

Hi friends!

Thank you for being here!! If you haven't met us yet, we are Danny DeBlasio and Catherine Hart , cofounders of The YALL Art Project, a non-profit organization that brings a collaborative art process in photography and mural painting to communities in need of the arts.

The name of our organization comes from You + All = YALL  which is at the heart of our collaborations.  Every individual is celebrated for their unique vision, but it takes all of us to create a masterpiece.  Our process begins with the students taking photographs and ends with a collective mural inspired by their images.  Each student will be given their own camera and guided through a series of exercises that will encourage them to find their authentic voice and individual self-expression.  After getting to know each other’s voices, perspectives, and ideas, the group will be challenged to collaborate on a mural inspired by the learning from their photographs, celebrating and incorporating both their differences and similarities forging a shared vision of the future.

We have an amazing opportunity to bring The Yall Art Project to three amazing organizations in Thailand and Cambodia.  It is a dream come true to have been invited to lead this process in these communities and we need your help getting the Yall Art Project to these incredibly deserving organizations.  We will be living in and working with each of these communities for 6 weeks each.

The Development and Education Programme for Daughters and Communities Centre in the Greater Mekong Subregion (DEPDC/GMS)  of Northern Thailand. This community-based organization currently works primarily to prevent and to protect children and youth from being trafficked into exploitative labour conditions.

Volunt2Thai Project - Volunteer to Thailand , a learning and recreational center for disadvantaged children in Udon Thani, Northeastern, Thailand

And DBK Art : An Art village dedicated to developing Boeung Kak, Cambodia through the arts and community engagement.

Your support will help us with our travel expenses and living expenses while abroad, but most importantly your support will go towards purchasing 15 cameras for our students and all the supplies for three complete murals.  But your dollar will continue to give after our projects are complete, as we will be setting up an online gallery with all the student photographs that inspired each mural for purchase with all the proceeds going back to each organization.

Words cannot express how thankful we are to have your support. While it means the world to us to be able to lead these projects and spead joy through the collaborative arts, it means even more to these communities to participate in a process of this nature as their resources are limited. Having been in the community based art field for a number a years, this process is always transformative for all those who participate.  It reminds us all that our world is ours to create.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we look forward to updating you on the process!

All our love,
Catherine and Danny

Hello Supporters!

We are happy to announce that our mini documentary about our project with SHE Rescue in Cambodia is ready to view. This amazing project was a result of your generous support and it's important to us that you know what your dollar helped create.

We also received incredible feedback from the lead psychologist from SHE Rescue about the impact the project had on the girls. She states, "Yall Art Project is great with children, it provides them with exposure to art and creativity on a level they may not normally have a chance to experience. I think a wonderful thing happens when children are encouraged to be imaginative and to create - they learn that anything is possible. I believe this encouragement is what Yall Art Project lovingly provides and every organization that works with children - especially those working through trauma - can benefit from them."

With the success and encouragement we have received through launching these initial projects, we have what we need to take The Yall Art Project to the next level and bring this to process to as many organizations as we can. We have completed our 501C3 paperwork and are well on our way to finding grants that can support this continued work.

We could not have launched if it were not for the collective support of each and every one of you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Enjoy our video and have a wonderful day!

All our love,
Catherine and Danny

Hello supporters!

We made it to Cambodia! After two long days of buses we officially have crossed the border and are safely in Siem Reap. Tomorrow morning we will take one more bus to our final destination at the SHE Rescue Home in Phomn Penh.

If you haven't yet seen the organization we will be working with, please check out their website at https://www.sherescuehome.org

This is an extraordinary organization and it's an honor to be able to make a little slice of difference in the lives of these children. All 9 children we will be working with have survived the horrors of sex trafficking. We are still raising funds to complete this final project. If each of you donated just $5 we could fund the supplies for this project.

The final mural will go into the "safe room" the children are building together as a place that is all their own. All of you have a piece in making this safe space for these kids.

It's always hard to ask for money, but We feel it's worth it because now we have a real sense of the difference this project makes in the confidence of the children.

Thank you so much for believing in us and trusting us to complete this process. As usual, we look forward to keeping you updated during the progress we make.

If you are able to give again, please do. If not, know that we are forever grateful and humbled by your support for which we could not have done any of this without.

And check out our new products available at http://www.yall-art-project.com/new-page/ if you haven't seen our new store yet!!

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there!!

All our love,
Catherine and Danny

We are so excited to announce that our next project will be with the SHE Rescue Home in Cambodia. This is an incredible organization providing education and a safe place for girls age 5 -16 who have been trafficked, raped, prostituted or vulnerable to any of these. After our experience at the DEPDC, our passion for helping those who have been affected by the devastating issue of human trafficking has grown immensely. We thank you deeply for allowing us to do this work and we hope you know the cause you have supported.
We also aim to increase awareness of the enormity of this issue. Some statistics from the SHE Rescue website:
1) An estimated 35.8 million people are in forced labour (including sexual exploitation) at any given time as a result of trafficking
2) An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked every year
3) 22% of human trafficking victims are trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation, of whom 55% are women or girls
4) Rape is increasing in Cambodia, and most victims of rape in Cambodia are children. The median age of rape victims in 2010 was 12 years
5) 64% of children in Cambodia said that they knew children who had been sexually abused

We still haven't reached our goal for the final project. We will have enough money for supplies if each of you donated $5-20 to this campaign.

With just a little more support, we can make this happen.

All our love,
Catherine and Danny
