Carlene's Cancer Surgery

Carlene is a single mother with two children.  Besides being an amazing mother and friend, she is one of the most caring and compassionate people that I know.

She recently found out that she has breast cancer and needs to have surgery... in addition she just found out that she has a significant deductible before the surgery would start.

In addition to my health insurance NOT paying for the part of my mammogram that actually detected the breast cancer I just received a call and a preliminary bill from NYU Medical Center for my "portion" of the surgery costs.  A mere $6,000 out of pocket and I can have the cancer removed from my body.

My anxiety is through the roof and was there long before I received this bill today.  I never understood our awful health care system but also never really had to worry about it because I have always had pretty good (ok great) insurance.  These are the kinds of things that cause people to not seek medical care or receive treatment.  

I'm pretty furious right now, at a time when I was hoping to find a good, zen place to pull me through all this.  The good news is that I am almost done with work, taking tomorrow off to spend some time with the kids, their cousin and auntie.  While they are at a Broadway show I will go and get injected with radioactive dye to find my lymph nodes and then spend time with a dear friend for the afternoon.   

FUCK CANCER and double fuck the shitty insurance I pay over $800 a month that covers just about nothing!!!
