Catherine Kelly Battling Cancer

Catherine Kelly, at the age of 41 and mother to nine children, was diagnosed with a Rare and Aggressive form of Bone Cancer in her knee 3 months ago.  Catherine has been hospitalized 3 times in the last 3 months to undergo chemotherapy at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.  She is now undergoing a 10 hour limb salvage surgery today, June 29th.    Surgeons will be removing the cancerous tumor and doing a complete knee replacement surgery that will include putting a rod into her Femur. Catherine will also require more chemotherapy in just 3 weeks. The chemotherapy alone has already taken quite a toll on Catherine’s health. Oncologists have told Catherine that her recovery will not be easy. However, she is determined to win her battle against cancer.  It will take Catherine approximately 6 months before she will be able to walk again after surgery.  Catherine will require in-home professional care, more chemotherapy and ongoing physical therapy following surgery. 

The family is now faced with the huge stress and financial burden of in-home care costs, medication costs, medical deductibles and medical out of pocket expenses which are not covered by the insurance company. In order to provide Catherine with the care that she needs, we are asking for YOUR HELP.

Additional help is also needed to provide meals for the family and ongoing help with child care. There are 6 young children in the home. 13 year old Benjamin, 8 year old twins Matthew and Isaac, 3 year old Kyle and 2 year old twins Joshua and Julianna. Catherine’s husband, Jim, works long hours to provide for his family and is unable to take any additional paid time off from work.  In order to take any leave from work to care for Catherine, Jim must take unpaid leave.

Unless we can raise funds for this family, Catherine will not get the proper care she needs to recover and her husband will be unable to take any time off from work to care for Catherine or the children.   It is going to take a VILLAGE to help this family thru this challenging and scary time.  We thank you ahead of time for whatever part you are able to take in helping Catherine and her family battle this cancer.  Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
