BritniePaige's Medical Fund
On Tuesday, May 9, after several months of being sick and being shuffled around from doctor to doctor, my niece BritniePaige was given the shocking and unfortunate news that she has a large tumor (along with several other smaller ones) around her heart. At the young age of 22, this is very rare, which is one of the reasons it was so difficult to diagnose. She has a long, tough road ahead and her medical bills are already stacking up.
On Tuesday, the doctor was so concerned with Britnie's symptoms that she ordered an emergency EKG, Echo, CT Scan, a cardiovascular test, and ten vials of blood. She was told to return on Thursday for the results, but later that day, the doctor called and asked Britnie to immediately go back in to consult with another doctor about what they had found. That's when they received the devastating news about the tumors. A biopsy to determine the type and stage of the tumors was scheduled for Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Britnie arrived at the hospital and was prepped for a biopsy only to find out her blood was abnormal and they couldn't continue with the procedure. They said the procedure was too risky because she could bleed out. This came as such a blow after finding out the day before about the tumors.
On Thursday, Britnie was asked to go to St. Joe's to give a fresh sample of blood and the results would take most of the day. After several hours of waiting, Britnie's doctor called to apologize. St. Joe's had run the wrong test and they needed Britnie to give more blood. Talk about frustrating! Finally, at 6:00 pm, they were given the go ahead for the biopsy to be done on Friday. Yay!
On Friday, Britnie went into St. Joe's again for her biopsy only to be told her blood work was abnormal again! After the doctors consulted with each other, they called for Britnie and her parents to meet with them. They discussed the risks and decided the need for the biopsy outweighed the risk and they went ahead with the procedure. The biospy was a success and they were able to retrieve three samples. Now we must wait until Monday for the results. Needless to say, this week has been an emotional roller coaster!
BritniePaige graduated from Lewiston High School with her CNA in 2013 and immediately got a job at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and began taking classes at Lewis-Clark State College to pursue a career in nursing. Because of her weak condition and future treatments, she is currently unable to continue working and will have to put her schooling on hold. Her mom has a full-time job and will not able to work either as she will be at Britnie's side during the entire course of her treatment. Their family has never asked for anything, and probably never will. I am asking that if you are able to help out with prayers and/or financial support their family would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you! I will be posting updates here or you can also follow Prayers For BritniePaige on facebook.
