Pearl of Africa Youth Brass Band

$4,249 of $10,000 goal

The  Pearl of Africa Youth Brass Band  in Kampala, Uganda is grateful for the privilege to serve 211 orphans (up from 100 when AMLuthiers became involved in early 2016) with housing, education, and band performance and also musical instrument repair as a career.  Currently the project needs funds to mail 100 donated instruments from Spain to Uganda, equipment for instrument repair, and also for housing and food expenses.

Our landlord comes every day the last week of the month until we pay.  We still need a place of our own, but continue to rent until we can purchase land. We appreciate the 4 sleeping rooms we have now and the kitchen where we prepare a small daily meal of beans and corn meal mush.

The past 20 years we have helped hundreds of orphans and needy youth to prepare for careers and be productive in the community.  Your contribution of any amount makes us shine as the Pearl of Africa bandsmen.  The few instruments we have are shared among the over 200 children ages 3 to 22.  Thanks to your help we now have 25 brass and woodwind instruments.  More are ready to be sent from Spain.

Your assistance is also a blessing to the community, as we serve in a musical capacity in many events.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Please check our website and our FaceBook  page for current activities.  Thanks for giving.

Roy Howard of the AMLuthiers  will receive your donation in Kansas, then send funds to either Spain (for shipping donated instruments) or to Kampala for direct deposit with the band director,  Edrine Wasswa .  More stories.  AMLuthiers is a 501(c)(3) Private Operating Foundation.  Donors can deduct contributions.

The value of a pearl is in the miracle of its creation within a mussel, clam, or oyster that is at least three years old. An irritant is covered layer upon layer with 'nacre', until a lustrous pearl is formed after at least three more years.
Of the pearls produced, only approximately 5% are of sufficient true gem-quality for top jewelry makers, yet a pearl farmer can figure on spending over $100 for every oyster that is farmed, whether a gem-quality pearl is produced or not. The highest value pearls take decades to form.
The Pearl of Africa Youth Brass Band takes children from life threatening situations, applies a layer of teaching each year and binds it with love. The young men and women who emerge are of high value to communities and the nation, ready to form families and support them with honest labor. The music makes them shine in the eyes of others, and develops teamwork and self confidence. Participants become true gem quality Pearls in Africa’s Crown.
