Youk's Ligament Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Who's Youk?  What's this about a ligament fund?  Who the hell starts a fund for a ligament?  Well, I do.  I'm Youk's favorite person.  The guy who feeds her the really good food with both the little round kibbles and the larger, tastier chunks that are supposed to resemble chicken.  The guy who brushes her 12 months out of the year because she loves it so much.  The guy who installed the doggie door so she can dash out and look all cute so the neighbors bring her treats.  Some of them actually do.  I'm the one who brought Willie home two years ago to give her someone to play with when I'm at work and the neighbors aren't around.  Yep, that's me.  I'm also the guy who can't swing the second ligament surgery in two months the vet told us she needs.  For those who aren't familiar with Youk, she's a 5 year old yellow lab.  Willie is her 2 year old "brother".

You see, Youk tore her left hind cruciate ligament two months ago.  There was no question that I'd opt for the surgery to fix her leg.  So she had the surgery and everything went great.  Youk has been walking on her bum leg, sometimes running even though I keep telling her not to, and was finally starting to go up the stairs.  The vet told me afterwards that there is a possibility that poor Youk could be predisposed to this type of injury genetically.  Dammit if he wasn't right.  Never did I expect this to happen to the good leg within two months!  I'm a little disappointed in myself for naming her after the injury-prone former Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis in the first place.  It was bad enough when he left the Sox to play for the Yankees, but now this??  Should have named her Ripkin.

So anyway, it was suggested to me to try this go fund me thing.  This is not really my cup of tea...asking for help like this.  The first surgery definitely wasn't in the budget.  There is no budget for the second one!  So here I am asking for some help for Youk.  For those who know me, follow my ramblings on Facebook, I'm fairly certain you've followed Youk's exploits as well.  The kids make fun of me because I call her "regal looking".  Abby gets bent out of shape when I hold conversations with her but secretly I think she does the same when I'm not around.  Henry adores Youk even though he says she's way too much like Abby.  And she's Willie's best friend of course.

As for me, Youk joined the family 5 years ago as a pup.  She came to me during a particularly difficult time in my life.  Many days and nights it was just she and I.  She filled a huge void, never left my side, and for as long as she lives she never will, that much is certain.

So that's the deal.  Thanks for reading and thank you for all the well wishes Youk has already received!
