Excess Skin Removal

$8,232 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 372 people in 11 months

Hi,
My name is Kayla Butcher and I am looking for any help I can get to allow me to get my excess skin removal surgeries done.
Let me tell you a little about myself, I am 24 years old and I work full time at a call center . I had Roux en y gastric bypass surgery on February 8th, 2016. I topped the scale at 376.5 pounds before surgery. I am down to 191 pounds. I am not done yet. I am so incredibly proud of myself and how far I have come.
Unfortunately even after losing 185 pounds I am now left with excessive loose skin that will need surgery to fix. It is considered a cosmetic surgery and is not covered.
It is very emotionally difficult to deal with, finally being freed from the weight I've carried since I was a child but still feeling trapped inside a body that constantly reminds me of the lifetime of pain and struggle. Wearing clothes is more difficult and being intimate is even more so daunting than before. Things like wearing swimsuits.  I have started saving here and there myself but need some help.
I left a very unhealthy home environment at 16 years old and have been doing it on my own since. I am momma Bear to the rest of my siblings and friends. I do all I can on a regular basis to help others in need and I am now asking for some help in return. No one's life is easy that's for sure, however I have struggled to get by at this point and it would take me years to save for these surgeries on my own. I have become a really big inspiration for alot of people and keep being asked to make a go fund me so people can help out, any donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much, sending all my love from this funky haired lady!

If your Doctor states this surgery is medically necessary due to skin infections from the loose skin it should be covered by insurance.

There's an organ donation center in California that will pay the surgery if patients like her donate the skin for transplants. My friend thats a nurse told me about this . This may be something you'd want to check into also. I wish you the best of luck. My mother did the same thing you did, gastric bypass and also had her surgery to remove all her extra skin. Sending Prayers your way HUN

Congratulations I'm going through the same issues you are at this point however, I have lost 290 lbs and I'm 2 years out I have 40 or 50 lbs left I'm working on trying to loose. I wish insurance would help but I have been denied 4 times even with my Dr saying it was medical reasons. They said I could do it and then they would decide if they want to pay if not I am stuck with the bill but I still have to pay half up front. It's crazy. They will pay for the bariactric surgery but not skin removal. Good luck and when I do get money I will drop back by your page and I'll share yours as well.

OHIP will cover the cost of a pannilectomy (removal of excess stomach skin) if recommended by your doctor. I had this done under OHIP. It's covered as it causes hygiene issues. In Ontario and I am sure all of Canada.

over halfway there, woo! and for the people leaving comments about skin donation and the TLC show, both are only really options for people in the USA, unfortunately, which is why Kayla really needs this to succeed instead.

Hi hun, CONGRATULATIONS! I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned what I am about to say, if they have, sorry for repeating the information, but just in case no one has - I am sure that you have been dealing with skin irritations from where your skin has laid on top of other skin. It doesn't matter how much you take care of your skin, or how good your personal hygiene habits are, sooner or later it is inevitable - especially in the summer months - there is a very good chance that you are going to develop a rash/infection (sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is an upside to the situation) once this happens, your condition is no longer considered "cosmetic"by your insurance, instead it will be a health problem that is covered by the majority of medical insurance companies. I hope you are doing well and are able to get the surgery soon.
