Basketball Program with no GYM!

My story is this: As a Basketball coach, I view my players as if they were my own family, a family I want the best for. I strive to show them how hard work, dedication, and perseverance can open doors for opportunities to succeed. I started this high school basketball program in fall 2014 and while we have a court to practice on, it is a public recreation court that is located outdoors. Given changing weather conditions and heavy use, this court is just not an ideal setting for a competitive high school basketball team. Seeing as how this is the only court accessible to these students, winter practice often takes place in harsh weather conditions, including temperatures as low as 20 degrees, forcing the team to essentially bundle up with several layers just to stay warm. Additionally, when it comes to indoor training, the team has no access to a weight room in order to train for upcoming games. This charter school believes that equal access to high quality education must be afforded to all students and that all students have the potential to succeed regardless of being classified as a group who is “at risk,” a belief I also have as a coach. My players have learned the importance of sacrifice and deserve the chance to better themselves not only in academics, but also in athletics, both of which are necessary to become valued members of today’s society. I am asking for donations not for myself, but for my hard-working basketball team who is in need of essentials, such as cones, basketballs, training equipment, to the bare minimum of socks, shoes, and team gear. If enough money is raised, donations may also provide the team with local gym memberships, giving access to proper training facilities including a weight room and indoor basketball court. My ultimate goal is to say at the end of the day: I did everything I could to ensure these kids have everything they need to succeed on and off the court.
