Eric, and I have a vision of transforming our 1.5 acres homestead into a retreat center for learning, contemplation, and exploration, where healthy vibrant community can be fostered and experienced. We are now one and a half years into this long term project. To date, we have engaged an architect, completed a property survey, and made it through all of the permitting "pre-permitting" meetings. The project continues with an early green light from the county.
In paralel, and to validate our hypotheses about this endeavor, we held one family weekend retreat last year, in collaboration with our next door neighbor's equestrian center , and held two more retreats this summer. A vibrant community has sprung up that continues to propell us forward.
On our property, we have three existing rustic outbuildings that we aspire to turn into gathering space for groups large and small year round. Like all dreams, this one requires care and feeding. The next steps toward making this a sustainable endeavor include completing the permitting process and associated fees (~$7k), more engineering work to complete the final permits (~$15k), basic landscaping improvements required for permitting (~$20k), continuing more detailed iterations of design work with our architect (~$5k), additional water, gas, electric, and drainage infrastructure (~$15k), and then begining to build.
