North Face for Youth Mental Health

Donation protected
When I went to Sydney in 2015 I was chasing multiple goals, I indeed hiked in the Blue Mountains, worked at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, sloughed through my Honours, socialised, road my bike and adventured at every opportunity. At my going away gathering in January 2015 we spoke of absurd goals like swimming with sharks, 24 hour yoga marathons …..  It’s safe to say I didn’t do either of those nor did I take the leap of faith Bungy Jumping. One thing I am also yet to do is run the North Face 100!

For those of you who don’t known the North Face 100 is a 100km run through Katoomba, surrounding valleys, trails and cliff faces. Running has always had an empowering role in my life  - I often say running up a hill gives you strength to run up a metaphorical hill off the trail and in real life. It allows you to have a greater capacity to bring your best self into the world, to feel, give, understand and contribute. What prompted my decision to finally run the race may have resulted possibly from the frequent trips I made to the Mountains in the past year, the awe I felt every time I went there and the way the vastness of the Mountains made me feel small and made it easier to realise what’s most important in life.

So in May 2016 I will be getting up at the crack of dawn to run with hundreds of other adventurers to overcome race challenges, physical and mental contests and achieve something we set our minds to. An aspiration or a goal isn’t just something you tick off your bucket list without meaning, it’s something that provides experience, exposure, self-esteem, friendship, gratitude and happiness. It makes you actualise a life you want to live and of which has value and significant meaning to you and the important people around you.

This campaign isn’t (but it’s an important element) just about raising funds for Headspace a Youth National Mental health services that provides face to face, online and in school  supports that encourage positive mental health. However any donation no matter how big or small will be appreciated and contributed towards this innovative organisation, just like I wasn’t (or even still now I am not) immune to experiencing mental health challenges neither are you, your children, friends  and loved ones. This campaign is importantly about realising what’s good for your own wellbeing both physically and mentally and leading a life that’s fulfilling for yourself.

If you take anything from this, make 2016 the year!  Make it fulfilling, contributing and meaningful, look after your physical and mental health and take that leap of faith and strive for that goal, aspiration or lifestyle change you have always wanted to make!

Good luck!
