Jacob’s Funeral Assistance

$168,731 of $175,000 goal

Raised by 4,575 people in 8 months
On October 11, 2017 Jacob was admitted to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital for the last time. Jacob’s Neuroblastoma has spread to his head- namely the sinuses, bottom of the skull, several spots in the small bones in the inner ear and several spots on the membrane between the skull and brain. We started radiation a week prior and Jacob’s condition got worse and he was having no success with oral pain meds.

On on the Monday the 10th we started chemotherapy in conjunction with the radiation and by Wednesday the doctors were concerned that there were no significant reduction of pain and decided to admit Jacob. Since then we have learned that his hip is extreamly peppered by tumors, which was described as looking like lace. This obviously has added to the pain and more importantly with his ability to walk and move around.

With that being said, his father, Roger and myself have been told that we should be spending as much time as possible with him and we should start making arrangements for his passing. It is expected Jacob may pass away within the month. Today Roger and I went to start making prearrangements for Jacob’s funeral, and were sticker shocked. No one thinks about having to do this type of planning for their child and because of that we did nor do not have life insurance on him. We are asking for some assistance from family and friends to help support this.

We we understand everyone lives on a budget and if you can not donate the best way to help (other than prayers) is to pass this along on your Facebook or other social media. Jacob has touched the lives of so many, he as well his father and myself appreciate your continued support, love, and well wishes.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jacob’s passing with you. On Sunday, November 19th, 2017, at just 9 years old, Jacob passed away after his a 4 year battle with neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer that most commonly affects children ages five or younger, and it accounts for 7 out of 10 childhood cancers. Every year, 800 new children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma in the United States alone. It is tragic, and more research and resources are needed to continue fighting for a cure.

We hope that Jacob’s story and the enormous outpouring of support from around the world will have a lasting impact on raising awareness for this disease. We hope that donations will be made, and a cure will be discovered as a result.

Each and every person who sent Jacob a Christmas card, a gift, a Facebook message or video, or a prayer made a difference in the final days of his life. You brought Jacob joy, and you brought us all optimism for the future. Thank you for taking the time, and taking an interest in our sweet boy’s journey. Sadly, there are many others like him that we hope you will continue to help.

We owe a deep gratitude to the people and organizations who have helped us along the way, including the staff at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

To make a donation in Jacob’s honor, please do so at Operation Gratitude, to a penguin rescue group, or pay it forward in your community. Do something for others, donate blood and platelets, or use your talents to bring shelter, nourishment or joy to those in need in honor of Jacob’s memory.

And most importantly, remember to #LiveLikeAPenguin for Jacob.

Good evening!
This past weekend we celebrated Christmas with Jacob. It was great! We opened up many things and he was able to enjoy the celebration in its entirety.
Over the last two weeks life has been a little chaotic on several levels. The out pouring of support has been wonderful and Jacob has enjoyed the cards, stuffed animals, Legos, and so many other gifts. In addition to organizing the holiday and his instant popularity, we got some bad news. Jacob had been experiencing significant leg pain (not unusual for the left side) in the right leg. This made it difficult for him to walk, stand and even get out of bed. Last week they did an x-ray and were able to confirm that the right leg and hip are riddled with tumors. The doctor said she was surprised he was able to even put weight on his legs, which proves how tough he is! Today we had a one time dose of radiation to his leg and within the next several days should see a little improvement.
We’re trying to spend as much time with him and surround him with positive feelings, thoughts, and love, which has only been compounded my all of you!! You guys have proven there is good, love, and fate in the world! Please live like a penguin!! ❤️
