Before I moved to Japan, the crazy cat lady in me longed for a "box of kittens" that needed my help. Now that I live in Okinawa - an island overwhelmed by homeless, feral, and/or dumped cats - my friends and I are overwhelmed by the "boxes of kittens" that come our way.
Jess, Kristy, and I make up a small and unofficial team of cat lovers that help Oki strays with our own time and resources, from feeding to health care. We have a fluctuating network of fosters that help us care for high-need cases until they find forever homes. We implement trap-neuter-release (TNR), provide medical intervention for particularly sick or injured cats/kittens, and of course facilitate adoptions whenever we can. We have also engaged with local officials to ensure that inhumane methods to reduce the cat population are not used in our adopted colonies.
It's hard work and a strain on emotions and resources, but we will continue to do it for as long as we are able. If you would like to help us ease animal suffering in Okinawa, please consider contributing. Every little bit helps!
To get a general idea of what your donation will help us accomplish:
$10 will cover a dose of de-wormer
$25 will cover de-wormer and flea medication
$30 will cover a two-week antibiotic injection
$40 will cover blood tests for FIV/FELV
$50 will cover a spay or a neuter
... $100 covered the surgery for Jill's swollen and deformed detached eyeball.
... $200 cured Elf of a dangerous bacterial infection from an abcessed bite (in addition to blood work, long-term antibiotics, IVs, etc, and flea medication.)
Any amount helps ease the cost of food, litter, kitten milk formula, and other needs for our fosters!
