Huey's Birthday Wish...

Many of you have asked what Huey would like for his upcoming birthday. We've given it a lot of thought and we feel like we've come up with the perfect gift request....Beds! Not just any kind of bed; a bed that is elevated off of the cold, bone chilling floor; a bed that doesn't require an already overused shelter washing machine, but instead that can be hosed off when needed; a bed that can fit a big dog, or numerous small dogs; and finally and most importantly, a bed that can provide a sense of home in an otherwise very sad situation.
We at the Saving Huey Foundation visit numerous shelters each week, and receive hundreds of photos of animals stuck in shelters. We speak with directors, and shelter staff and most seem to have the same concern, keeping the animals warm in the winter. Blanket donations are always needed and appreciated, but washing machines cannot keep up with the shelters demand for clean blankets when they are used as beds. Blanket should be used for warmth ON TOP of a bed.
It is our goal to immediately provide as many shelters beds as possible to any shelter in need, regardless of location. Beds will be given out on an "as needed" basis. (I have received a request for 65 beds.)
The best quality bed that I can find, at the most reasonable price I can find, is through PetCo (a representative from Saving Huey will be contacting PetCo in hopes of securing an even better price). The beds currently run between $45.00 to $65.00 each, depending on size.
Saving Huey currently has just under 12,000 followers on Facebook. If each of Huey's followers were to donate just $1.00, imagine the beds that we could buy for shelters.
