On behalf of the University of Miami Athletics Department, we are deeply saddened to learn that Dana Smith, the mother of UM cornerback Artie Burns, passed away this morning following a heart attack.
Smith, a former track star at Miami Northwestern High, has raised Artie, 20, and his two younger brothers, Thomas, 15, and Jordan, 12.
Please consider supporting Artie through this difficult time. Funds will provide support for funeral, medical, and related expenses. Funds raised in excess of the support needed for funeral, medical, and related expenses will be donated to a charitable cause, per NCAA bylaws.
