Queen City Boxing Club

Hello world!
My name is Richard Wright and I am from a small town called Camden Arkansas a.k.a. Queen City. When I was growing up, Queen City was full of opportunities and activities for youth - my personal favorite was being a member of the boxing team at our local Boys & Girls Club. Boxing taught me dicipline, hard work, and allowed me to network with other children that were from different backgrounds, which helped me become the man I am today.
However, that was in the 70's.
Over the last two decades, jobs have left, population has dropped and a lot of the activities I was fortunate to participate in have stopped. Our county, Ouachita, was ranked last in Arkansas in terms of health rating just two years ago. That has improved but is still pretty low.  While our local public school offers extracurricular activities, a good group of students arent interested in participating. Because of the lack of jobs and the amount of broken homes, a lot of our talented and brilliant youth grow without mentorship and end up roaming the streets and often falling in with the wrong crowd.
I am a father myself, and I've seen it all too often. That is why I am in the process of starting the Queen City Boxing Club.
Over the last year, one of my former boxing teammates and I trained two teenage young men - Ty and Daryl - and traveled with them to several tournaments. The traveling and equipment expenses came out of pocket and we trained in the backyard. Yes, the methods were old school, but the experience was unforgetable. We had a blast! Our local newspaper and radio stations got on board and supported our cause. Both Ty and D captured victories and got to hang with more seasoned boxers, including Camden native and amaeture boxer Mario Moore.  We talked a lot about being an adult and responsibility as well as just boxing.
Now, I want to make this bigger! We want to have every gender and every race from elementary school up to high school.
Since Ty and D graduated and are looking to go on to college/workforce we want to bring more kids in. Over the last few months I was able to rent and secure a building. The funds that are raised will go towards filling it. I have contacted a carpenter who says he will be able to build a ring, and we need more equipment for the children to use. We are planning to start training in September, even if all we can work on is endurance and mentorship.
To keep up with us, follow us on facebook at Right Media & Queen City Boxing Club. You can also subscribe to the Queen City Boxing Club channel on YouTube.
This is a non-profit organization and I along with the children in this city will be forever greatful for your support. I trully feel like God gave me this mission and my plan is to keep having faith and KNOW that God will see us through.
 Thank you so much again.
