Dear friends, family, colleagues and photo community,

As we reflect on this past year, we cannot help, but be saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague Scott Braut. We know so many friends have wanted to find a way to express their love for Scott and provide some assistance to his beautiful family. This fund is a way for us to come together in a collective spirit of love for Scott and his family.

Known for his big smile and engaging stories, Scott touched everyone he met. Scott was generous, kind, and cared deeply for his friends, colleagues, mentors, and mentees. Most of all, Scott loved his family. Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Faith and their three adoring young children, Aiden (9), Rowan (7), and Quinn (5) whose interests and personalities will continue to embody everything Scott loved in this world. Scott is also survived by his beloved parents, Angela and James Wright and Peter Braut of Long Island, and brothers Daniel and Christopher Braut.

After his family, Scott's passion was photography. Known throughout the industry as a tireless advocate for photographers, Scott spoke around the world empowering individuals and businesses to create content. He strived daily to make a difference in the industry with empathy and passion for craft. Scott was an accomplished photographer himself. His career in the field began at the Associated Press where he was the National Desk Photo Supervisor. As his career unfolded, his work included coordinating technology and logistics at Corbis for conflict photographers in the Persian Gulf, becoming an independent specialist in photo licensing, launching an eCommerce marketplace for photographers to manage and sell their images at Digital Railroad, and taking on executive roles at Shutterstock and later at Adobe Systems, which he described as a job of a lifetime. Not many people can say that their work is their passion, but Scott's work allowed him to help artists and photographers worldwide bridge the worlds of art and commerce. Anyone who worked with Scott knew that he was truly committed to ensuring that the photography field would continue to thrive in a digital world.

Even as time begins to allow our hearts to heal, we continue to miss his humility, endless wisdom, and spirited humor. His empathy for everything that crossed his path and a smile that could move mountains will be deeply missed. As we look back on the days we shared with him, we are thankful to have met him and appreciate the grace, dignity and joyous care that he put into his relationship with each one of us.

The holiday season is upon us; and if you didn’t know, Scott went all out and to great lengths for his kids during this time of year. There has already been a lot of hard first steps for the Braut family. This was the first holiday season that Scott’s family were without him. To help provide a little comfort in this trying time, please donate generously to this fund. All proceeds will go to Faith to help offset the financial burden she has faced alone over the past few months. In honor of Scott, who had done a lot to support us, please redirect that gratitude to his family through this fund. We can invest in his children’s future, as Scott has invested in ours.

Sincerely,
Scott’s colleagues and friends
